OK...but what temptations can he create that would not involve affecting someone's free will?

irish: So you think he does alter your level of free will. Why does God allow Satan to alter your free will if it was so important that you have it?

I can tell I'm talking to a brick wall here.

What does Satan put in front of you to tempt you? Is it things people say? Is it things people do? Wouldn't he have to alter their free will to get them to tempt you?

It's free will that allows you to choose to follow the temptation or not.

Temptation and influence RELY on free will. It's free will that allows people to make a choice in the first place, without it we would be blind followers of whatever alleged powers there may be and would not give other ideas a second thought.

When you influence someone you convince them, by their own free will, to think a certain way or behave a certain way.

Although that Satan doesn't actually exist makes the entire question relatively moot. =P

Elementary my dear Watson,

Humans have weak points. These could be weaknesses in personality, in habits, in beliefs, in principles etc.

These weaknesses form holes in your defense mechanism against outside influence.

What satan does is make use of the weak points and catch you where youre weak so you cant think right or make a logical decision rather than listen to that evil thought.

Some people wuold rather not call it evil thoughts, but if it ends up putting you offcourse from your initial goal to become a better human. It is most definitely evil.

This also means that satan can read your thoughts and know where you have weaknesses in logic and defense.

basically christians feel that satan's demons tempt people with sex and all things that they consider to be immoral due to their religion although it's the people who make the decisions as to what is right and what is wrong anyway the true concept of freewill is the ability to say yes or no to doing right and doing wrong but alot of chreistians don't understand the concept and satan shouldn't hold any power on anybody as it's up to the individual who is being tempted to make the right decisions at all times

The only reason that Satan can tempt anyone is because they have free will. It is our choice to make...

James 1:14 & 15: "But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death."

a temptation is something that is there before you, but it is your choice...(free will) as to whether you allow it to be your choice.

You have the will to make a choice, but Satan can tempt you by making the wrong way look right.

Satan, at the behest of God, tests us by offering us free will choices. The choice to obey God's instruction or to succumb to temptation is entirely ours.

Satan and hell are consequences hardwired into our heads through years of evolution. Society has survived eons because of this conscience we are gifted with. If we thought we were allowed to do whatever, with no consequence, we wouldn't last long.

Free will is the right to make choices. Even if you are tempted, ultimately the choice is yours.......between right and wrong.
