Both answers above are correct. Plus First Class usually has free inflight entertainment, especially on longer flights, but in Coach you still have to pay for the headsets for the movies (this will vary greatly by airline and aircraft type). First class usually does not have any children in it which is a huge benefit for some travellers. You have a reserved lavatory; coach customers are not supposed to use the forward lav (although they do sneak by very often) so lines for the lav are shorter, if any, and the lavs tend to be a bit cleaner because there are fewer people using them.

Some first class tickets allow you an extra checked bag--- depends on the airline and if you are getting into first via an upgrade or paying the full first class fare.

Meals in first are often served on real dishes, and drinks in real glasses, while in coach you may not get a meal at all and your drinks are in plastic cups (this also varies by airline and route).

First-class customers get to board first and therefore always can find room in the overhead bins for their carry-ons.

First-class customers almost always are offered pillows and blankets unless it is a very short flight; in coach it is very hit-or-miss. This doesn't really matter to me, though; I think the airline blankets are filthy things and won't use them.

First class passengers usually have a dedicated security lane and therefore shorter lines going through security. Might not find these at all airports though.

Similarities... not many... you get from Point A to Point B at the same time, and you're still on an airplane, but apart from that, there's not many other similarities!

It will depend on the airline, many airlines will have better food, drinks and wine with tablecloths and real silverware. Many airlines have full flat beds in business class with more legroom than you need. The toilets in business class are for business class passengers only and you rarely have to wait to use them. Unless you're seated upstairs in a 747, the noise levels aren't too much different, although many airlines do offer noise cancelling headphones in business class these day which can make a huge difference. Many airline's also offer on-demand personal entertainment which can really help to pass the time. You'll also get priority check-in, priority baggage handling and priority boarding as well as use of the airline's business class lounge before your flights, and on many airlines a very nice designer amenity kit. Jet-lag with a six hour time difference isn't too bad, especially if you can get a good amount of sleep, which is a lot easier to do when flying business class. Flying business or 1st class is the only way to fly, but whether it's worth the huge difference in price, only you can decide.

There are a number of differences. First class seats are larger and have more leg room. On larger planes doing overnight flights on some airlines they recline fully. There are never more than 2 seats in first, so noone is stuck in the middle.

The food is much better in first. On most domestic coach flights there is no meal service at all. There are free drinks (alchoholic) in first. You pay for that in coach. You just get pampered a lot more in first. But its much more expensive. If you check www.seatguru.com it will show you the differences in the seats on the flight you are looking at.

It depends what airline you're on, and what what type of plane that you're on. You normally will get seperate check-in, priority baggage and boarding, higher weight allowances for baggage, access to their private lounges before your flight and a seat much like a good lounge chair with plenty of leg room. On the better airlines long haul flights, you will get appetizers and champagne when you first sit down, you get amenity kits with lotions, moisturizers, toothbrush, eyeshades etc.. Many of the better first-class flights have full beds, with down comforters and pillows, designer pajamas (that you keep), cooked to order meals 4 or 5 course meals, caviar, the finest champagnes and wines, large screen tv's, you will always be addressed by name, one airline even has an on-board masseuse for first class passengers. Basically, it's totally different than coach, once you fly first-class, it will be very difficult to fly coach again, at least until you see how much more it costs. Have a good trip and congratulations!

Well, I was in First Class once on a long haul for 24 hour flight from Brazil to Japan. Being a frequent flier on economy, it was such a treat! Wider seat, seat you can recline in sleeping positon, more compartment space to put your stuffs, better seat in the house, where less noise from the engines (any where front than the wing would be less noisy). Of course, even before the plane takes off, the flight attendant will serve you champagne and you have your coat hung and they call you by your last name. And the meals are served on china with silver cutlery, right before your eyes, not pre-packed tv dinners that just got out from an oven. Fresh fruits, wines, great menus. But they didn't much of Brazilain cuisine that time, I couldn't swallow sushi but it was such an experience.

If you can afford it, first class offers great amenities. If you can t, then you cannot expect these. I m weary of people wanting the same privileges as those who paid more. I have never felt anger at the people that I pass in first class as I make my way to coach. I didn t pay nearly as much for my seat, and I expect to get to my destination safely. Anything other than that I have to pay extra for. Get a life, people!

First class has bigger, more comfortable seating and is in the front of the plane so you board and disembark first. You get free alcoholic drinks in first class, and sometimes free food too (better than in coach). You also don't experience turbulence as dramatically being in the front of the plane as opposed to the back. You also get more personal service from the flight crew.
