Good question former Witness! It is so rewarding to see all of us stand up and help active JW's to open their eyes to the deceit behind the organization they slavishly devote their lives to. I am in the process of developing a new website regarding the dangerous and destructive cult otherwise known as the Watchtower Society. It will be released shortly. In the meantime, check out our channel on You Tube to see some video clips from the upcoming site. Rock on fellow "apostates"!

Ours is not the only Bible to read "a god" at John 1:1. Notice, too, how other translations render this part of the verse:
1808: "and the word was a god." The New Testament in an Improved Version, Upon the Basis of Archbishop Newcome's New Translation: With a Corrected Text.
1864: "and a god was the word." The Emphatic Diaglott, interlinear reading, by Benjamin Wilson.
1928: "and the Word was a divine being." La Bible du Centenaire, L'Evangile selon Jean, by Maurice Goguel.
1935: "and the Word was divine." The Bible—An American Translation, by J. M. P. Smith and E. J. Goodspeed.
1946: "and of a divine kind was the Word." Das Neue Testament, by Ludwig Thimme.
1958: "and the Word was a God." The New Testament, by James L. Tomanek.
1975: "and a god (or, of a divine kind) was the Word." Das Evangelium nach Johannes, by Siegfried Schulz.
1978: "and godlike kind was the Logos." Das Evangelium nach Johannes, by Johannes Schneider.
At John 1:1 there are two occurrences of the Greek noun the·os' (god). The first occurrence refers to Almighty God, with whom the Word was ("and the Word [lo'gos] was with God [a form of the·os']"). This first the·os' is preceded by the word ton (the), a form of the Greek definite article that points to a distinct identity, in this case Almighty God ("and the Word was with [the] God").
On the other hand, there is no article before the second the·os' at John 1:1. So a literal translation would read, "and god was the Word." Yet we have seen that many translations render this second the·os' (a predicate noun) as "divine," "godlike," or "a god." On what authority do they do this?
To say the Word was God would not harmonize with the rest of the Bible. For instance, if the Word was God, then who came to earth? God or his Son? (John 3:16, 17) If Jesus is God, why did he call his Father the ONLY true God? (John 17:3)

What sense are you looking for? The Bible refers to different individuals as gods, including Satan. The Apostle John never uses the same Greek spelling for the word god in reference to The Word as he does in reference to his Father, but he does use the same spelling for the word "a god" in reference to The Word and to Satan, so is Satan also God? Go to any Bible Book Store and buy an Interlinear Greek Translations of the New Testament, if the still sell them.
You can do better than this. Try the scripture in the old testament that refers to The Word as a Mighty God. Oh, oh, problem with that is mighty god gets its power and existence from an Almighty God

In the footnote of my NAB it states that God(2) in John 1:1 is a quality or an attrabute and NOT an Idenity.
God with capital 'G' is a title and not an name.
So even insisting that God(2) be capitalized, doesn't prove Jesus is the 'only true God' any more than Judges 13:21,22 proves that the angel of Jehovah (LORD) is also the only true God.
"King David" being a king with a capital 'K' doesn't prove David is the same as King Jesus.
Abraham being called lord by Sarah, doesn't prove Abraham is the same as Jesus, any more than Jesus being called Lord is the same as Lord Jehovah.
Being called God / god by Jehovah doesn't make you a true god or a false god.
It makes you a mighty one which is also a definition of the word 'god'

You have a right to you views, but you realize we're arguing about words here.
People, in all traditions, often forget that winning debates and gaining recognition is not the point of ANY scripture. Nothing was written in any religious text to bolster the ego. We need to focus on the POINT OF THE STORY rather than the DETAILS. If you pick apart the details, you miss the message.
If someone goofed-up in the Garden of Eden, for example; it's not important if the snake was a Copper Head or a Sidewinder. The POINT, the reason the story was included, is because somebody goofed up. They disobeyed.
Do some people have stupid answers about stuff? Yes. But if you focus on the words, you'll only get yourself mad. All crazy answers are equeel. Apply patientce and let go. I learned to not agravate myself. There's no point.

Dear Laylallu,
I am not a jw but I have to tell you what I think.
I think it is absolutely great that you not only left the jws but that you are actually studying God's Word!
I agree with you that it is time for a revival!
Are you familiar with David A. Reed's book Jehovah's Witnesses Answered Verse by Verse?

The bible quite explicitly calls Jesus a "god"; human judges, angels, and even Satan are also referred to as "gods" in the bible (see below). Yet Jehovah is "the one true God" in the sense that He has no rival among any of these. Jesus the Son is clearly no rival to God the Father!
(Psalm 86:8,10) There is none like you among the gods, O Jehovah... You are God, you alone.
(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) There is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him
(Exodus 22:20) One who sacrifices to any gods but Jehovah alone is to be devoted to destruction.
The bible speaks of honoring Christ Jesus and doing obeisance to him, but only Jehovah the Father merits worshipful "exclusive devotion".
(Exodus 20:2,5) I am Jehovah your God... I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion
(Philippians 2:5,6) Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God
The bible does not use the term "god" only in reference to Almighty Jehovah.
(1 Corinthians 8:5) there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth
Jesus as "a god": (John 1:1; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:18)
Angels as 'gods': (Psalm 82:1)
Satan as 'a god': (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Human judges as "gods": (Psalm 82:6-8) “I myself have said, ‘You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High. Surely you will die just as men do... Do rise up, O God, do judge the earth
Several bibles translate John 1:1 in a manner compatible with the phrase "the Word was a god". Frankly, the entire bible teaches that Jesus (the Word) is distinct from and subject to Jehovah the Father.

I first want to congratulate you for getting out of the JW. There bible is corrupt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that the JW denies the trinity of God? They believe that you have to do work to be saved, but Jesus tought that by His grace alone we are saved.
You've got the words from John 1:1 wrong and that changes the meaning!!! It is: ''In the beginning there was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
Jesus is not a god, but He is God
