Your white gold bracelet is indeed in all likelihood gold. It is not "Fake" as asserted above.

What you are suffering from is a very common metal allergy--an allergy to nickel.

Pure gold is yellow, and only yellow. To get other types of gold, other metals are mixed with the gold to change the color from yellow.

To get white gold, the yellow of the gold is "bleached" by adding gray metals. In North America the most common metals used to get white gold are Nickel and Palladium, nickel being the most common and most economical of the two.

It's estimated that as many as 15% of the population have an allergy to nickel.

If money is a real issue and you want to wear the bracelet, get a clear spray lacquer from the hardware store and spray the bracelet. You will have to do this relatively often because it will begin to wear off. However, it will probably allow you to wear the bracelet some and not cost much money. I personally could not bring myself to spray gold with lacquer.

If you take the bracelet to a jeweler they could plate the bracelet with rhodium. Rhodium is a beautiful, very reflective metal of the platinum family and would also prevent your allergy problems. Because it is being plated on, you will have to have it redone periodically because the rhodium plate will begin to wear off. Any jeweler should be able to do this for you.

You are probably best off not wearing any base metal jewelry. I'd also stick with yellow-gold or platinum earring posts. Sometimes (not always) someone with a nickel allergy can eventually develop allergies to other metals, so I wouldn't wear my jewelry 24-hours a day and would not wear pierced earrings to bed. Also, avoid silver/sterling silver from Mexico--it is often plated with nickel to help prevent tarnishing.

Good luck.

You could be allergic to the gold or other metal which the bracelet contains. Visit your pharmacist and ask if they have any OTC meds for this. If not, ask your doctor. The bad part is, if they have meds for it, you will have to take it all the time while wearing the bracelet. That's not something I would do. Sometimes you just have to make scarifies and return the gift.

there's stuff you can buy over the counter to paint on the bracelet to stop the irritation...although gold is very unreactive and shouldn't really cause an allergic reaction...

I have some rings and earrings that bothered me similarly. I painted the inside of them with clear nail polish and they don't bother me any more. Don't know what type of bracelet it is so don't know if it will work for you.

I think you should take it to a jeweler to see if it is actually real...I mean an upscale place....You might be reacting to something it is made out of....Maybe it needs to be cleaned....To be honest I would take it to a jeweler in an upscale place....Then to you might need something that is hypo--allergenic...I think that's how you say it or spell it. Kind of tired....
