If someone wanted to buy a car and money is no object. What would be the cheapest car to buy figuring in maitnance cost, insurance, gas, etc.... would it be better to buy a high end car like Lexus or something like a Toyota those are just examples. It can be a truck too. This is not for me I am just curious. I have been told Lexus is but insurance for a Lexus is expensive. I want to know for the long run too for example 20 years. Would it be cheaper to go with several cheap cars or one expensive car.

The beetle is good but it would have to restored. I was thinking of something newer lets say a new car or a car less than 5 years old

Regardless of what anyone else says, I'd say a Prius. I LOVE my Prius. I get 65 MPG and haven't had a problem (except needing new tires) yet...and I have 55,000 miles on it so far. Maintenance costs have been pretty much standard. It's so much fun to drive.

The old Volvos ARE good too. The new ones stink. I sold my volvo convertible with only 11,000 miles on it (at a $25,000 loss in value). It was in the shop more than it was on the road.

20 years? I would have to say a Ferrari, Corvette or something that will have collector value. For a real world vehicle, your best bet is almost any full size 4X4 pick-up truck. That was over the last 20 years. Who knows what the next 20 might bring.

As for the Prius, think about having to start replacing batteries and repairing those goofy looking things. I don't think that they will have any value in the future. People are already starting to figure out that they are a lot of hype.

In the long run? The really really long run? Old volkswagen beetle. You can find restored cars for $5-6k. Parts and repairs are very inexpensive. And, if done right , they will last a long time without problems.

Go for the Lexus or Toyota-- they are GOOD cars and they are made by the same co. I have a toyota, so does my mom, dad and sister.... It will last me a LONG time.

buying or leasing a new car is a huge waste of money - unless you really want the superficial "thrill" or "attention" it seems to garner

upon leaving the car dealership parking lot your "new car" immediately loses about half of it's worth

but if you want a cheap car that is going to last about 20 years I would go for a Toyota Prius right now -

probably best for the "set it and forget it" Ron Popeil philosophy as far as cars are concerned

buy an older model Volvo, you can't kill them and you can do the maintenance yourself on the older ones.
