I cannot believe how stupid some can be, I have read the last few weeks where people are leaving their kids in the car unattended, while they go Tanning, to the Casino and what not, and the tempertures are well below Zero. This is stupid when it is a vunerable adult (senior or disabled) or the weather isnt extreme, I lost my grandma, by some thugs that stole the car she was sitting in and dumped her in a place where no one could find her.
How can we educate people of the risks they are putting their loved ones in??? How can we educate people, they are not only neglecting and endangering their loved ones, but they could be indirectly murdering their loved ones!!!!! Over what, having to get a tan, throwing a quarter in a machine on a pipe dream, running into the store to get milk, do yourself a favor, even for 30 seconds, take that baby or family member with you!!!!

recently there has been a debate about a smoking ban in cars with children. I am all for this. anyone who is not needs to revaluate their thinking. why because in answer to this question my husband and i feel that in order to be a parent you must take certain parenting classes and then pass them. why, because would you want to be in a car with someone who had no idea how to drive? would you eat something that someone made who didnt know how to cook? nooo. so why would any kid want to be brought into a home with people who could not take care of them properly. For Most parents taking care of a child comes naturally but there are some really screwed up people out there who just dont qualify as a parent. if we took a test for commom sense things in raising infants and children the majority of us of course would pass but then at least there would be less idiots leaving their kids in cars for hours at time or doing all the other messed up stuff they do to their children.

The child was not unattended. If you're within earshot, she's not alone. The law here is intended to prevent two things: The worst problem has been with parents leaving very small children in cars on hot days. There have been several deaths from this. The other, which is actually much more rare, is stranger abduction. I don't know if that has ever happened out of a car. There have been some cases of car jacking with babies in car seats, but it seems to be that the car jacker is after the car, not the baby. In some cases, the child has been left by the side of the road to be found. Still a worry as a parent, but car jackers tend to grab the keys from you when you're there at the car, so that has nothing to do with this law. $100 is a pretty measly penalty for leaving a child alone in a car in the heat, if you ask me.

I am so sorry for what happened to your grandmother. I hope those people paid for what they done to your mama.
People know not to leave their kids or even pets in the car. People know this but still yet do it thinking everything will be alright. I personally though have never seen a child left in a vehicle but i have animals when it is so hot outside and they have the window cracked maybe an inch. I would never leave my son in the car to run in to get milk or whatever because i know how kids get kidnapped and how things can go wrong in the weather. It is stupidity on the part of parents for leaving their loved ones in the car in all types of weather and for something like murder you mentioned to take place.
I don't see what anyone could tell people about this because every one knows better than this just like how we all know not to shake a baby. I think people that does leave their loved ones behide just don't care.

Some people are just so ignorant. How can people leave there kids in teh car in the summer?
They just don' tcare bout there children.
I would never leave my children in the car unattending...that is just crazy
One time we went to the post office and there was a baby in the car and it was just screaming and it was good twenty minutes that no one came and I called the police on them. That baby could have died or been stolen or anything!!!
I think everyone knows not to do it but they just don't care. They don't use common sense and I believe all we can do it continue to put out notices warning people..on the radio, tv and newpaper...put up flyers every whre and have the police put sticter laws down' on stuff like this...
Maybe if they are scared they will get in trouble then they will quit being so stupid

In my home town there was a man that was suppose to take his baby to day care on his way to work because his wife had something to do, she usually was the one to take the baby, so the man totally forgot about the baby and went straight to work instead. It was during the summer and with the windows rolled up on the car temps got well above 100 degrees in the car. When the man came back from his shift he noticed he forgot all about his baby in the back seat...but it was too late and his baby was dead.
All though this was an accident what could people possibly be on their minds that would make them forget their own children. Some people just don't think and end up paying a price for it.

Have you seen the new commercial about the mother who comes back from a store and finds her child had passed away? The first time I saw it I almost cried! I'll try to find it for you. I think "shock" tactics used to inform people on TV commercials are great. I also think that doctors speaking to parents during their check ups is very effective.
I never leave either one of my boys even for a minute in an unattended vehicle. You never know how long you're going to be [long lines, talkative neighbor, if you got hurt] or what could happen while you are away.
EDIT TO ADD: I couldn't find it at all! I'll describe the commercial to you. It's starts with the woman getting back in her car with lots of groceries. [The scene is shot from the back seat] She's talking to her young child [you know how we all do it] and says "Sorry mommy took so long. I just...." Then she looks back at her child and rubs his/her leg but the child doesn't respond. She's frantic and is screaming. It then cuts to "Never leave your child unattended..." You know how the infomercials do. I think that's a great one. It really shoes us what can happen--in hot or cold weather what can happen.
I also agree with not smoking in cars. There are so many things that risk a child's health that some parents do. It's sad! I'd be all for mandatory parenting courses during prenatal visits!

It doesn't matter what we do, there will always be people who are too stupid and more than anything too SELFISH. When they do these actions they just do not want to inconvience themselves. They do not care what happens to the other people. I know you mentioned just children but it also applies to pets. I have not witnessed a child being left but it angers me to no end when I see a pet in a car on an extremely hot or cold day. Both pets and children are helpless they cannot do for themselves or speak out. It is up to those who pass those cars to take action. We cannot think that the next person will help them. We have to be brave enough to stand up and do something.

either they don't care, don't think anything will happen, or just think that they won't be away from them long enough for anything to happen. Some people just don't want to be educated. They think they know everything already and could careless what others think. You would think that social services would keep a close eye on these people, but they're not. They allow the parents to keep the children or they'll take them away for a brief moment and then send them right back to them. It's sad, but that's just how the system works.

Yea some people just don't care enough to think about there family members. But if something would happen to one of them it would be the end of the world and they wouldn't be able to understand why it happened to them. People need to think more before they decide to do things!! I couldn't imagine even for 30 secs leaving my child or family member alone in a car if they can't fend for themselves.
