notatall if you use it properly,i mean you dont get addicted to it.In case you are earning ur livelihood through comp you can do some simple excercises every halfan hour.while viewing things closer to us is strain on our eyes, seeing faraway objects relaxes the eye.Close your eyes for 2 minutes and see faraway objects for 3 minutes and then resume your work.while on computer blink as many times as possible for your eyes to get enough lubricating fluid which the body produces.donot blame the computer if you are not prepared to condition ur eyes by the above simple methods.any way dont stop using computer for imaginary fear of getting eye defects.

YES. Since I am now being treated for severe eye problems, I know about this. Using the computer doesn't seriously damage your eyes by itself, but if you use it for more than 2-3 hours a day without much rest, it will dry out and strain your eyes, which can make other existing eye problems worse.
It is a well know medical fact now that "Dry Eye Syndrome" aka "sicca", is in part or in full in some people, caused by looking at a computer monitor for 6-7 hours a day with very few breaks.
Lubrication eye drops help, as does looking off across the room or to another distance off and on. Also, making sure the height of your monitor is right (see online suggestions) is essential to keep your eyes from being strained, as well as your neck, shoulders and upper back.

yes, if you are using CRT (old TV like monitors) for long time.
There are many health issues due to usage of computer but its a fact that we cant avoid using computers, so we will go for some resolutions for the issues.
For eye problems, shift to a TFT monitor or use a antiradiation glass screen if you want to continue with the CRT monitor. Dont forget to blink your eyes frequently to prevent de-moisturising of the eye. The fluid in the eye helps to control the temperature in the eye and is a natural germicide to kill all the external organisms entering the eye. So keep blinking your eyelids frequently.
Hope this helps you.................................. All the best.

Yes it does. Using computers puts a strain on your eyes.... contributing to the deterioration of your eyesight.
However, there are things that you can do to reduce this strain. These articles give some recommendations:
