1. Windows Vista is an operating system it would replace your XP
2. You would have to install it.
3. Not sure. But most likely is.
4. You would have to purchase it unless you want to download it for free at www.torrentz.com (not exactly legal).

I would recommend sticking with XP for now Vista is a power hog and most likely has bugs to be sorted out yet. Your Dell might not have the min system requirements even if it was purchased within the last year.

Windows Vista is an operating system, like XP or Windows 2000. It's the latest version of the Microsoft Windows Operating system. It has a different GUI and some new features.

You get it on your computer by purchasing it from your local store (Best Buy, Office Depot etc) or purchasing a new computer that it's already installed on.

It's not available on the Mac. Besides, OS X is much better so why would you want to downgrade?

Yes, you have to purchase it. You can see details and pricing at Microsoft.com.

Your computer may not be able to run it. To check, use the Vista Upgrade Advisor, which you can download from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

IF you have all these items on your computer, download VISTA UPGRADE ADVISOR from Microsoft and it will tell you if your computer is Vista cabable, what drivers you have that will work or need to be upgraded and what programs will or won't work. I personally would wait at least another 6 months before going to Vista (this is if I were you). I myself have no intension of going to Vista for at least 2 years.
