I would take it as an attempt not to single any one out. The individual was trying to let the entire group know not to do that in the event that you were misinformed. Often, people make mistakes because there is an understanding amongst everyone that that is how things are done. I think if they had come to you privately, they would have been saying that you are the only one that could have possible made the error. If the entire group is corrected, two issues are addressed. One: there may have been other people who thought that you were in the right, and might have done the same thing. Two: since everyone now knows, the person doing the correcting has a leg to stand on if the same occurance happens.

It would only be insulting if every one knew that it was directed to you.
Otherwise, it is more productive and nicer to make it a general comment rather than a specific one.
Now, if they offered the correction by saying, "All right people, we don't want to do what Anashuya is doing, cause she really screwed it up." Yeah, the would be insulting and grounds for a ************.

If you truly believe the criticism is being directed specifically at you, I suggest you speak to the individual concerned and try to work through the issues that exist. In the work place you can only be more productive if you know your weaknesses and no point in someone else's hiding these behind a collective "This is what you are doing wrong" speech.
For a happy and productive work place, you need honesty and sometimes those one on one discussions.

Yes, that would be nice. But in real life, we can not control the behavior of other people. Perhaps you may find a quiet time with that person know how you feel if that is possible.

Maybe it isn't only you. Maybe the mistake was a common one that sooner or later many people make. Maybe it needs to be a group lesson.
