Seriously.

Are you convinced you are guilty for ANYTHING you've done? Or is it all because mom and dad mistreated you, you were a disadvantaged youth, you've never felt loved, didn't do well in school/sports/career...? How far do you carry a sense of entitlement to do wrong, if so?

Do you actually have to break a civil LAW to be guilty, or do objective personal/interpersonal ethics genuinely exist? If they DO exist...who has the authority to forgive you?

Surely, there's a difference between genuine GUILT and "guilt-feelings"...?

If there is, calling it a waste of time, or ignoring it, balancing it out with good deeds, even "forgiving yourself" has no bearing on the issue, right?

Who's weighing the balance of good vs. bad deeds? Who are you responsible to?

Do people really think they're absolved of a lifestyle of offenses like the one described in the joke below because they go to church?

Guilt is real, because we know we have:
a) broken a law
b) hurt someone
c) disappointed someone

Guilt is used two ways by different individuals. It is used by Satan to make us think that we are worthless and lowly. We fall into self-condemnation when we believe Satan's lies.

Guilt is also used by the Holy Spirit to convict of sin and draw us back to Jesus for the forgiveness we desire and seek.

People can sometimes forgive us,
Jesus always forgives us when we acknowledge our sin and ask for forgiveness.

When you know you are guilty the only way to get relief is saying it to the affected and if possible solve the issue.
maintaining it hidden maintains the feeling of being guilty and that any moment you are going to be discovered and punished and that puts anguish in your life.

The one who received the damage can understand not forgive
Civil law sometimes forgive in the way that the officer or judge considered that you were not guilty

I feel guilty whenever I hurt someone.

What do I do about it? I go to them, apologize, and see if there is any way I can repair the damage I've done.

Two days ago I kinda overreacted to some things a close friend was saying. Yesterday, me and him sat down, we talked, and I apologized, and we figured out how to put it in the past.

Guilt (from that at least) gone.

No need for a deity. I hurt my friend, my guilt was entirely with him. Where would a deity fit in? Even presuming one exists, it would have been entirely out of that loop.

My what a curious child you are.

Its none of your business if I feel guilty or not.

But I can say here and now that there are two bodies who have the right to forgive me or judge me. One is the law, the other is God.

If Ive done nothing wrong infront of these two Im sure I wouldnt feel a tinge of guilt for anything Ive done.

As it is, God deals with things like human rights on a personal level: hurting someone with your tounge, breaking their hearts, lying to them etc

Guilt is like eating a chinese apple . And after you have eaten it you feel guilty.
Because you hand will turn black in the process of peeling it.
It means you shouldnt have done it. It is a mechanism of conscience which tells you what is right and what is wrong.
There are usually consequences for doing things wrong.

I am guilty about a lot of things that I did years ago--but none of them were illegal.

Some of my children were doing quite illegal things, have vicious tempers, like to fight, etc. Their father and I were always pacifists--so they had to get that from peers.

I don't have a whole lot of time to do much about my guilt, when I have to be watching out for my (now grown) children getting into trouble. If you mean do I ask God for forgiveness, the answer is yes--for myself, and for my children.

I believe that alot of events that happen in a persons life can definately lead to a path of challenging decisions, but the decisions are still yours and as long as you know the difference in right and wrong, then you're resonsible for those decisions.

I spend all day ripping off innocent investors. I cheat on my wife all the time. My company is illegally dumping chemical wastes into an aquifer. None of this causes me any guilt because I go to Church on Sunday (my Get out of Hell Free card, suckers!).

I take responsibility for what I do wrong. I ask for forgiveness, from the people that are on the receiving end of my actions and from God. Then I am able to forgive myself.

May God Bless you.

Guilt is a waste of time!

I take responsibility for all of my actions.

I apologize when doing unintended wrong against another and I let it go.

To dwell is not helpful.
