Apparently my mind isn't open enough to see what the heck you're talking about.

I already tried that... and I didn't see anything. In fact I saw my life disappearing from being wasted following a path with no destination other than right back where I started.
I was then even more open minded and looked to see what everyone else was seeing. I read up on other religions, and tried to fit things into my ideas of perfection... it only led me to question perfection itself... who defines it? On what basis and by whose standards?
Then I considered myself agnostic for a while. I figured maybe people just can't grasp the concept of a deity... after a good third read of the bible- it was over. I saw the human intention in it. I realized that religion closes my mind to other things, and oversimplifies answers that deserve more of an answer than "because of god"... When "god did it" could no longer compute in my head- it was all over.
In essence, I was so open minded that I searched for it. It just ended up complicating my theories and led me straight back to the same book I started with- and no questions answered... until MY simple answer led me to the right path to search for me... "what if there is no god"... Moving from there, a new perspective that is very understandable has allowed itself to be seen. We are not godly creatures- we're animals. We make decisions based upon our functions and needs as animals. "Good and Evil" were replaced by "intention" and "alternate viewpoints". These concepts put human judgment on an individual level- not group. Every person is different, and thus should be handled differently... Osama Bin Laden wasn't EVIL, per say, he was MISGUIDED and CRAZY and BLOODTHIRSTY... Evil suggests he was the opposite of good- to himself and his followers, however WE are the bad guys! Who is right? Who decides? The Bible? He's Muslim- who are YOU to say he's wrong? Do you see where I'm coming from, at least?
Its best to let everyone have their own take on life. Simple as that.
Just my opinion/thoughts.

At birth our open mind begins to be filled with junk. It is very hard to toss out all this junk and restore the open mind. Probably very few even try. I found Jesus to be of great help in explaining away the clutter of my past.

Because we TRY to "see" - awareness requires no effort...and we don't want to "see" what is - we want it to be something else, so we resist was is and/or cling onto what was or what we want. This comes from ego (the little me) and that does not want to be open - because ego doesn't like vulnerability.

Huh? Do you mean why can't people see things the way YOU see them? I think that question answers itself.

There are none so blind as those that don't want to see.
Rom 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
