Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Pros: You can have 20/20 vision.
Cons: If something goes wrong you vision could be screwed up forever.
I heard the other day that if you have this done you can't have a cornea transplant.

I had LASIK done in May of 2005...I can't think of any "cons" to tell you. I think it's different for everyone; I had no problems what-so-ever but the guy that went in before me (I saw him at our follow up visit) had a lot of discomfort. There is only like a 2% chance that you could go blind; do lots of research and talk to many as many doctors as you can find then chose the one you you feel most comfortable with. I talked to 8 doctors and then decided who I wanted to do my surgery...he was a little more costly but I felt comfortable and confident in his ability. You will probably have to wear reading glasses eventually just because of old age; even my LASIK doctor had to wear reading glasses. He said "Don't you think if I could avoid having to wear reading glasses, I would?" My mother had LASIK in 2001 and she hasn't had any problems so far but she does have to wear reading glasses...considering she wore coke bottle bi-focals before she decided she could live with reading glasses. If you are financially able to have the procedure done I would recommend it 100%!
*Females tend to develop "dry eyes" more so than men. The halos/starbursts vary from case to case...mine improved after surgery. Before I couldn't stand driving on California freeways at night because it was like I was being blinded by oncoming traffic and now it doesn't bother me. Oh, I've also worked with computers (8 hours a day, 5 days a week) since the surgery and still have 20/15 vision...

depending on your age <40 or >40. If under 40 you have hopefully some years you will not need to rely on glasses for distance or near. If over 40 you will need reading glasses anytime you want to read after the surgery. Your eyes are dry for about 6 month after lasik and you will have an increase of halos at night. You may also need night driving glasses
