I get four or five dots lightup one after other on the display followed by a circle with a diagnal line through it then it trips back to standby.

sounds like an interal problem with the processer, best to get it checked out.
Depending on the age of the machine if under 1year ( free charge ) if over it will cost you the labour and parts.

Make sure the unit has enough clearance to get fresh air circulating around it. Unplug the unit for 30 minutes, then plug it back in again. The symbol you are seeing is called the "no bozo" symbol and is telling you it's too soon to turn it back on, because it's probably too hot.
