I mean, there's no proof that God even exists! So, how can we truely say that we're "one nation under God" ??? That just makes us, as a country, sound ignorant.

The reference to God should be removed based solely on the fact that it was not an original part of the Pledge, it was added during the "Red Scare" of the 1950s. Period. It wasn't there originally and doesn't belong there.

Since the 'God' reference is barely 50 years old, yes we should take it off. It was put into the pledge during the 1950's - the time of the cold war. That and also the "In God we trust" that now appears on our money, which was done at the same time.

I haven't heard a valid reason for removing it. There was definitely a valid reason for adding it. I suppose you want to remove "In God We Trust" from the money, too??
As long as this country has faith in God, God will have faith in this country. I firmly believe we will go downhill if we allow God to be erased from our public lives.
Believe it or not, I am not a Bible-thumper. But obviously, I do believe. It's better than the alternative.

That "One Nation Under God" is what made this country great and don't you ever forget it. For when we forget God we can kiss this great nation goodbye.

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Romans 10:3

I think that it should be removed from the pledge, not because it sounds stupid, but because there is no ONE religion in the U.S. Many people don't believe in God. Some people believe in many Gods. The current Pledge, in my opinion, is sort of discriminating.

No, it's a tradition and part of our heritage. Our country was founded in part to ensure us freedom of religion and by extension freedom from it. It is not bad nor disgraceful to remember and honor that.

I don't think it makes us look bad.... when was the last time you were in a foreign country and some one asked "why do you have god in your pledge?"

I actually do, because not all of us worship God, or worship God the same way. Some of us worship Gods, or Allah. The words weren't originally supposed to be there in the first place--they were added at the height of the Red Scare of the 1950s, as a way to filter out "communist" atheists. All in all, a bad idea to keep it.

The vast majority of Americans (like 90%) think "One nation under God" should remain in the Pledge of Allegiance. WHen I was in school, we learned that our system is based on the concept of "majority rule; minority rights". This means that the majority decide the matter, but the minority cannot be punished for simply voting in the minority. Say they put it to a vote to do away with Income Taxes. The majority decides to do away with them, but the minority cannot be forced to pay income tax just because they voted for it. If you don't like the words, just don't say them, but America has decided they should be there.

If there is no God, what the heck do you care about a couple of words? There are so many people here who just can't get God out of their minds and move on with their day. The need to constantly mock the Lord comes from something. You better find out what and you won't find out here.
