For some reason it really jars when I read it!

FOR CORRINE
I satand by my 'does it'. If I was an American living in the OC I might say 'does it not' but I'm not.

Spot the deliberate mistake people. Spot it and e-mail me when you've spotted it.

They're having a go at you over the "does IS" bit when you mis-typed the "it", but in any case, some of my REAL terrors are Their/There/They're which is similar to yours, and how many times do you see questions beginning "DOSE your etc etc" when they meant DOES! The list could go on, but it would get too boring.

'Bad Grammar' bugs me, but people being pedantic about grammar bugs me too. The language evolves, so any 'standard' rule that is listed somewhere or taught must become INCORRECT at some time.

A good example of this is the famous Star Trek line "...to boldly go..." which splits an infinitive. This has always been forbidden, but the problem is that any other way of phrasing the expression would change its meaning slightly. Logically, the fact that the statement ONLY works well with a split infinitive leads to the conclusion that the rule is too inflexible to be useful. Other statements containing a split infinitive must be possible, so either the rule will die out, or a framework for exceptions must be added. Eventually, you have an artificial language (like 'Latin' which was not the language that the romans actually got from the latins) which cannot be taught as easily as a natural one.

Another interesting example is 'NUCULAR' (new-kyoo-lahr), which in the last couple of years has been taking over from 'nuclear' in news items about atomic power and weapons. All sorts of officials, who must know the real word, use the funny one. Maybe it's easier to say, or to read correctly from notes. Perhaps this 'easy version' preference is why language and grammatical changes arise in the first place.

I'm an amateur writer and I do notice it when people make such errors, however it doesn't bother me as long as it's readable. Only when the spelling is so bad it's hard to understand do I get annoyed. I've been reading & posting on various kinds of forums, message board etc since way back when BBS's were still new, and people have always made these kind of errors... especially when English isn't their native language. If I'd let it bother me I think I'd have a constant headache & an ulcer by now!

it doesn´t bug me at all, I love it when YOUR reading things on the internet and THEIR full of mistakes it makes me laugh when people incorrectly use the ´ TO I suppose it might be DEW to the informality on the internet, people take little time in preparing what THERE going to write, as an extension to this and what I do find annoying is when people make oral mistakes, in many parts of England it seems the terms lend and borrow have been reversed another popular one is acrossed (acrosst) instead of across, guess that what happens when YOUR teaching English as a profession....
Sorry but I couldn´t help myself

I'm really sensitive to proper spelling, grammar and pronunciation etc......... As a french woman who's tried for the past 20 years to perfect my english and who takes pride in speaking a foreign language fluently, it annoys me so much when i spot mistakes in english or french for that matter!
Also, in the same idea, i don't like the sms texting. It was created as a faster way to communicate but instead of speeding up the process, it slows it down on my end: I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT!!!!!!!! My teenage daughter uses it, even managed to spell her beautiful first name differently, and it takes me ages to figure out what she means. I think it's a shame. Lots of people should learn how to spell and write their own language first before they start playing with short textos.
My humble opinion.

It annoys me too, I consider people who do this sort of thing as either thick, lazy or ignorant.

As far as I am concerned, it's discourteous to deliberately not bother about spelling, grammar or puctuation - several prospective employees may have found this out the hard way.

We can all make "typos", I do it all the time, but at least most of us check our work! Ahem . . .

I honestly don't care. As long as I know what they're trying to say, it really doesn't bother me - I'm not one of those anal retentive "grammar queens"!

If you have proper reading comprehension skills, you will KNOW what they mean, even if they made minor technical grammar mistakes.

And, for the love of God, LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!! This is Yahoo Answers, not the damned SATs!!!

I'm a substitute teacher, I get PAID to correct people's grammar errors, and you don't see me flipping out here!

So take a chill pill, and just read what they're trying to say, rather than stressing yourself on how they said it!!

Simply put, it bugs me a bit.
You're correct in your observation, it is bad grammar for which there is little excuse!
For those who do not know:
your= possive "is that your dog"
ýour're = contraction of "you are" as in "you're using bad English when you mistakenly write 'your' when you should have written 'you are' or ýou're'"
In haste I can make the mistake myself, but it is rare, and spell checkers will not pick up on the mistake.

Bugs me as well. Too many people grow up relying on word processing software to "spell-check" their work. Also the influence of rapid communication like emails and instant-messaging and text-messaging, all of which is made to be short and quick.

People are lazy.

Take the time to check your writing, it's not rocket science. Quite often, you're appropriately judged by the words and language you demonstrate - please type responsibly.

Your, sorry only kidding ,you're not the one who cringes at bad spelling and grammar. I hear it daily on the radio and from so called celebrities on T.V. but what gets to me most is bad spelling and grammar used by print journalists who by profession should know better.

I think you have to accept that all levels of education and ability exist in the world. Of course you're right with your question. Bad education does bug me but we simply cannot put the world to rights ..... and this stage is not designed to police people's abilities, unless they say something defamatory or threatening.
