I have been dating this guy for 2.5 years... we've been through everything together and love each other a lot, but I'll be honest, I've added some drama to the mix. He says he is tired of my jealousy (I've been cheated on in the past, not by him) and that I should take some time to grow and come back to him when I get myself together.

He has told me he wants to see other people (when/if there is someone that interests him), but he still wants to hang out and be friends with me because he has a lot of fun spending time with me and loves me too much to not have me in his life. He keeps saying it isn't over, but I don't know how I would be friends with him though- I think it would hurt too much. Has this ever worked out for anyone? Can you go from exclusive to just "dating" again? I acknowledge his constructive criticism.. I know I need to work on me... do you think this is just a nice way of him breaking up with me, or is it in a way his inability to move on without letting go?

it is a nice way to break up I think. Just remember you are letting him see other people and it will be hard. I think that friendship is possible but from a distance, like emails, phone calls whatever, but hanging out with someone you used to love and listening to them talk about dating, whats happening with the new person/people in his life, will be difficult. You need to do the same thing. I understand the jealousy part, after being cheated on, I go through that from time to time, just apply my new thinking to your life. The losers who cheated on you are just that, losers, not all men cheat, and you have a lot of self worth, Use that knowledge to be happy and secure with yourself. Thats what I'm doing and its working! good luck

He wants to BANG you until he finds somebody special. So you get to be his ride while he looks for the next one. That's all it is and ever will be. If he was a MAN he'd actually dump you completly but he's a selfish boy and wants you plus someone he can take home to mommy.

His line only works on little insecure girls, if you'd be a women he wouldn't even dared try to puch such a piece of crap on you. But then again if you were mature you wouldn't be dating this clown in the first place.

It's a not very nice way to break up. He thinks it's being nice, but really he is going to date others while keeping you on the side just in case he hasn't found anyone better. Do you really want to wait around while he's sleeping with other women? I wouldn't.

It's evident he doesn't want the drama in his life. He seems to want a loose relationship and if you're willing to provide it, he may see you're the best of the lot after all.
