This is more of a relationship to relationship question. Some people value different things. Generally a relationship is build on mutual trust and respect. It is then made stronger with honesty, compassion, and love. It helps if both of you are attracted physically to each other on some level as well.

Sex is kind of important as well.

Being able to listen and share each others feelings. I found out that my wife has great appreciation for me because I'm always there to listen to her, no matter how small or big her problem is. We need to care for each other better than we do ourselves. And don't forget love. Love conquers all no matter if the problem is petty or huge, of course it has to be mutual love.

Also need to be able to give more than is taken. Sometimes it's just better to allow your partner to gain more even if you have to hold back some. I found that this is also a mutual situation where if not abused by one or the other can help build a more trusting and endearing relationship.

Trust, Honesty & Respect. Ask yourself everyday - Am I trusted and do I trust? - Am I honest and do I feel as though he/ she is being honest with me & last but not any less important - Do I respect and do I feel respected. These three truths hold strong for every facet of a relationship form the dating phase to marriage and intamacy. It is important though to hold yourself accountable for having these for yourself first and foremost!
