OK...I don't squat alot of weight. I've worked up to the 45 plates but I find that my back starts to get sore so I'm wondering if a belt would help even though I am not squatting my weight. (I am about 145 ibs)

if you are at or near 85& of your 1RM you may want to think about wearing a belt. don't forget to train your core, the stronger your core the less need for a belt you will have.

Forget the belt, lighten the weight and work on correct form. when you have that down gradually increase the weight and work within the limits of safety. I hope you are using a spotter when you squat.

Only if you get lower back pains, you're lifting extremely heavy weight, or your form is not good. Otherwise you do not need too.

You should probably practice your form, and consult guides that demonstrate how to properly do it. squatting should not hurt your back at low weights.
