The US has no official language. I speak German, Spanish, and English. Almost all Americans speak English, I think that English should be made the official language of this country.

I speak 3 languages as well. I moved to US not so long ago and the first thing that I learned before I moved was English language since it is an official language in this country.

Later on I was really amazed how much our tax money goes on duplicating paperwork in Spanish. I didn't move here and said: well lets speak Russian since we have such a large Russian population in US, I learned tEnglish.
Half of those people are illegal here and they use our healthcare and any government help and American taxpayers pay for it.
If you can't proof that you entered US legaly you just file your paperwork to the central INS office in Taxes and you get a green card in several months.
On the other hand people who went legal way spend years to get green card and most of the time no help from government or you will get punished for it when you will apply for a citizenship, most likely they won't grant it to you.
I appologize for going so far in the political issues, but it's really bugging me and I think it's not fear.

America is a country of immigrants. We have to speak an officail language which is ENGLISH, not Spanish, not Russian, not Japanese or Korean.

Yes, it is a big benefit that you can speak multiple languages but when it comes to the official government language it must be the only one for everybody.

The historical rule was once, regularly talk within the language of the land, should you see different humans round you, notably should you realise each languages good sufficient. Speaking within the language that humans don't realise will invite suspicion, mistrust, and is going towards fostering a well will. That's the guideline I went via whilst I got here to the US 25+ years in the past. We used to change the language whilst others have been round. I do not consider many humans move via this rule anymore. Today, if you're strictly speakme with household member although, I do not see why you can not use your possess language. I could be respectful of others, and scale back your voice. (no longer whisper, simply talk in fair quantity of quantity) Some humans are pissed off whilst any individual is loudly and overtly speakme in international language. To me, this isn't a query of ones correct.... it is all approximately being courteous and being mindful of others. I'm completely happy you're asking this query.

I think it's great that you speak three languages. I Canada French @ English are the two officials languages. US, well Spanish is spoken frequently, they have one official language English. I hope you keep your skills up as they will work to your benefit. I'm not truly understanding the question. Is it that you feel that a country should speak more than one language or just English?

I do believe that it's acceptable for any country to have an "official" language. That said, I believe grammar school students (the very young) should be started in foreign languages and required to study at least 2 other foreign languages.

I speak 2 languages and a smattering of 3 others. Languages do not come easily to me but I believe it's important to know how to communicate and to learn about other cultures. We're all on this planet together, aren't we?

I also speak 3 and am on the same boat as you, there should only be one here. However, I feel that it would be good for us to follow the model of many European countries where the norm is to at least know one additional to your mother tongue

if you are asking should we speak another language besides English , then yes i think we should . when the brits go abroad to where ever the local people really appreciate it if you make an effort to speak their language and they are more inclined to help you if you try. i speak dutch not fluently but i know enough to get by and find that when i do go to Holland and make an effort to use their language , people are much more friendly . you might make a few mistakes but you can have a good laugh over them and maybe make some new friends into the bargain.

I don't know what country you're talking about, but I personally believe every country should make English their official language. It would just make life so much easier!!!
