Go to Techtonicstuning.com and get a cat-back from them. A cat back with a larger diameter pipe going to a performance muffler will give you greater gains than just a muffler. It allows the car flow the exhaust faster with the great diameter pipes.

David, Shop around for other cat back systems. The good ones always have two mufflers. Generally speaking you can push exhaust gasses through two high performance mufflers than one. To be perfectly honest with you one single large diameter system would be more than sufficient for you If you can match up sizes properly. Take a look at a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler on line. You'll will see it is a straight through design weather your inlet and outlet are centered or offset you get the same inside design. Personally the sound is deeper, fuller and as you listen it seems like you have more cubic liters, cc'c or cubic inches. The tip is nothing other than the exit for the exhaust. It only needs to be the same size as the core of the muffler.

The muffler is part of the exhaust system. The muffler is the thing that diminishes the noise. Generally speaking, an aftermarket muffler is designed to be fitted to the stock exhaust pipe. .

I'd say go for the catback exhaust - performance is way better than just a cheap muffler and some tips. Albeit, the catback for my 02 GTI was rather expensive to buy off the shelf, so I had mine custom made for about 2/3 the cost, by someone that I trust wholly!

exhaust tips aren't gonna do squat for performance, I would have to see what kind of muffler they are putting in to say there would be a difference.

What I can say for the performance system is the muffler and pipe will be tuned so it will sound optimal, and more than likely will be stainless so it will last longer, plus they have done test to ensure optimal output from their design. now... your exhaust is better do you have an improved intake ? AEM or K&N filter charger? Turbo? Super charger? you are only really going to see improvement from how well your car can "breathe". the exhaust is only going to be as effective as the air the engine can take in, more air in more air out.

no more air in... just loud coming out and no substantial gain in performance
