Quite a lot of people believe that as the idea of an afterlife is based on two things:

1) some religious beliefs

2) apparent existence of ghosts

Obviously the non-religious would not be inclined to believe in an afterlife as defined by religions, and skeptics don't even believe in ghosts. After that there's no more evidence. No afterlife. Just no more life.

There is no afterlife in the traditional sense, when we die, we cease to exist. This is what the Bible says. (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10). However, the Bible also points out the hope of living on a paradise earth for all who might want it, including those who have died. For this to happen, the dead must be resurrected. They will not be resurrcted with their past imperfections and health problems, but they will be resurrected to a much better life that they knew when they were alive before. Isaiah 35 and 65 are good chapters to read in this regard. John chapter 11 shows that resurrrection is God's will for the dead. Revelation 21:4 shows that death itself must come to an end which can only happen if those who are in the grip of death are freed from it. This does not include those whom God deems to be unworthy.

Hi, yes we all have an afterlife. When our earthly body dies our spirit, or soul, goes to spiritworld, or Heaven where we stay until we decide to have another incarnation ie. come back to Earth as another person (reincarnation) We live many earthly lives for the purpose of learning from our experiences for the progression of our soul. The reason I know this is that I have been a spiritualist medium for many years and I am in communication with those spirits who have passed over into the afterlife.

To put it blunt; let us settle this once and for all - take a shotgun...

I do not believe in an afterlife; therefore I try to live my only life as well as possible.

The 'afterlife' I believe will be exactly the same as the pre-life - before conception or whenever you personally believe true life starts. Anyone remember where your soul/conscious was before you were conceived?

I believe in an afterlife. You're going to hear from a lot of people who don't though.

I don't believe in an afterlife myself. I think thats why a lot of people turn to religion, all religions talk of an afterlife, so I think people follow them because they are afraid of the cold, hard truth.

I believe in afterlife . I believe that we'll be reborn again to be judged of our doings in this world . To say that we'll juz die & be consumed by worms & we'll not be judged in afterlife is just ridiculous . I believe that we'll be reborn to be judged by the God almighty. Those who lead a life of a noble man, will be sent to Heaven. & those who lead a life of a sinner & do not repent for the sinsa made, then these person will be sent to Hell.

When death happens,ie., when the body perishes the eternal indestructible soul within the body goes to another body according to one's karma. Just as one changes new clothes when old cloth is torn, similarly we accept another body(new cloth) when the old body is torn(dies). Just as when a old house we are dwelling collapses, we enter a new house, similarly we give up our old body(where soul lives) and enter new body(house).

Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.
Bhagavad-gita-2.12

As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change.Bhagavad-gita-2.13

Those who are seers of the truth have concluded that of the nonexistent [the material body] there is no endurance and of the eternal [the soul] there is no change. This they have concluded by studying the nature of both. Bhagavad-gita-2.16
An excerpt from the purport by Srila Prabhupada.
There is no endurance of the changing body. That the body is changing every moment by the actions and reactions of the different cells is admitted by modern medical science; and thus growth and old age are taking place in the body. But the spirit soul exists permanently, remaining the same despite all changes of the body and the mind. That is the difference between matter and spirit. By nature, the body is ever changing, and the soul is eternal. This conclusion is established by all classes of seers of the truth, both impersonalist and personalist. In the Vishnu Purana (2.12.38) it is stated that Vishnu and His abodes all have self-illuminated spiritual existence (jyotimsii vishnur bhuvanani vishnuh). The words existent and nonexistent refer only to spirit and matter. That is the version of all seers of truth.

That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.
Bhagavad-gita-2.17

NO! When we die it can be a beginning. A general resurrection is in store for the majority of mankind. In that, we will be instructed in God's laws and have a second chance to live forever as he intended. However, we will again be judged and at that time his choice of death eternal, or life eternal will be made.

There is not one iota of evidence for an afterlife. It's not a pleasant thought, to contemplate your own non-existence, so it is understandable that people over the centuries have concocted all manner of comfort-fables about souls and gods and paradise, but I'd rather not cling to unsubstantiated myth, however attractive. This is all we have, so make the most of it!
