Shih Tzu Feet Itching Problem any answers?

Question

Does anyone know what you can do for a Shih Tzu that has a disorder of knawing on thier paws to where it creates sores and bleeds? He eats a good Lamb and Rice food. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

9 times out of 10, that's allergies. Please talk to your vet - he may need a shot, or he may need to have his food switched. Check the ingredients of the food you've got - if there's corn in it, there's a good chance that he's reacting to that. You might need to go grain-free for this dog which isn't hard to do. The dog may also be bored. If he's left alone a lot, or doesn't have a lot to do, he may be self-mutilating from boredom. Again, this is something you need to talk to your vet about. Giving him his food in an interactive toy may help - using a Busy Buddy or Kong, or an Amaze-a-Ball or Buster Cube, so that he has to work to get his meal, would be a good starter solution for this. I have been told by some dog owners that gnawing on the feet is due to an allergy. It usually happens when a dog goes outside and they walk in something that irritates their feet. Your best bet is to contact your Vet and find out if you should change the diet or if there is a medication to resolve this or stop it all together.

here's the help you, seek.. Sulfodene, is a yellow oil, and great 4 many skin problems and allergies.. put it on once a day with a cottonball, for 4 days.. sold at most pet supplies stores, even K-mart, carries it.. your welcome : )
