Remington 870 Express! While I own a Mossberg 500 too, the 870 just seems to "fit" better. While Mossberg has come a long way through the years I still prefer the 870.
A friend bought my used 870 so I picked up a new one back in November.
I shopped around and ***** Sporting Goods had the best price for the gun with one barrel, $229.99, $245 out the door with tax. There was also a $30 Remington mail in rebate and $25 ***** mail in rebate at the time, so I ended up having $190 in a brand new gun.
I had previously bought the Mossberg made rifled barrel setup for the 870 for $145. It is Mossberg part #92356. It is a 24", fully rifled, ported, cantilever mount barrel with a laser bore sighted Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x32mm scope. They are out of stock now, but the link below has the info on the barrel/scope setup.

Total invested for gun with both barrels was $335.00.
I'm not sure what, if any, rebates are available now, but it definitely pays to shop around for the best deal.

The Remington model 870 is a great shotgun at a decent price. Barrels can be changed in a few seconds.

Mossberg 835. I picked up mine used, maybe 7 out of 10, for $150. It'll pull 10 for 10 on some clay pigeons all day long.
Mine's blued and wood, but have a friend with a synthetic in Mossy Oak. Also a nice gun.
Nothing wrong with the Remington 870. There's a reason they're so popular.

I bought my Remington 870 pump, 12 GA, in 1975 (for the mathematically challenged out there, that's 32 years).
I have a bird hunting barrel for it and a slug barrel. I have used it to hunt and compete with. It's still going strong.
A new one might run around $300. A good used one, about $200.

i agree with mcspic, the Mossberg 500 is a good shotgun for the money. It is made right here in America too, something Remington doesn't advertise anymore... I got a combo several years ago, it came with a 28" smoothbore with 3 choke tubes, full, mod. and IC. It also came with a fully rifled 24" barrel. Both barrels are ported to help reduce recoil and improve muzzle jump. I have taken several deer with the slug barrel, and have taken a few squirrels and turkey with the shot barrel. You can also find the combo for around $300 at most places.

Mossberg 500. One option is an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel that can go shot or slugs. It holds 5 in the magazine tube + 1 in the chamber. New under $250.
There was a period in the recent past where their quality went down, but it is back and mossberg is, in my less than humble opinion, the best pump gun on the market today.

Remington 870 is the best pump shotgun you can get. It is also very affordable. The Benelli Nova is also a great pump shotgun and is very affordable, about $360. Some poor guy mentioned this and got a bunch of thumbs down, but I own one of each and they are both excellent guns.
