Focus on unique style,...
Although it good to start off painting realistically,...I find it to constraining. The style of realism dose have benifits but I feel it does not give me enough freedome! It gives small boundaries of expression! There is to much of it out there and It all looks the same!
I suggestion is to brake away from the norm! Be a spirited rebel, an unique artist! Try all the things your fraid of painting! What make you different from the rest!!! You can have an influence but alway try to add things to your style that give distance between you and the influencial artist or style. Develop your own techniques and philosophies! Build your own unique tools and equipment for painting your pictures. Remember, you don't always have to buy store baught paint brushes or painting surfaces like canvas! Make your own painting tools! and people will greatly knowtice,.big time! Be a rebel with spirit! Kick the can for all it worth! The more noice you make, the more people will notice you! Rattle the cage! Develop you own unique tools & techniques for painting, and stand strong in your beleifs & philosophies.......always tell why you do things. Explain to people why this line goes that way, and why you put this colour there,...
Philosophies- what do you see around you? What bothers you or you feel strongly about? What brings you peace and peace with others? What do want to express of bring feelings of? What lines, colours, textures,...ect would best express your own individual message!... your painting!...... the painting used with the one of a kind tool or equipement you made!
Do act confindent,...be confident that you style and your art is different from everything else! explain why to others and you will become awesome famous!
.....oh yeah,..work ethic is important, social skills, and business management. Good luck sister,...never give up

Painting with acrylics can be really fun. Yes they dry fast but you can get acrylic medium to make it last longer you can also use the medium to make the paint more transparent and look like watercolor paint. buy a larger brush since it is easier to paint larger areas. the small brushes are for detail and that would be the last thing you put in. I really enjoy painting in acrylics and have taken quite a few art class in college. To check out some of my paintings you can go to http://www.myspace.com/jonnieann.
well have fun that is the most important part.

I paint for a living, and use only acrylics. I use a spray bottle of water and mist my palette occasionally to keep them wet. And despite what was said in an earlier post, you can mix your colors on your canvas. Acrylics are forgiving -- if you goof up, you can paint over any mistakes. You can also dilute acrylics and paint on paper to make your painting look like watercolor. Or use straight from the tube for impasto applications.

Try this site.
http://painting.about.com/od/acrylicpainting/a/10tips_acrylics.htm
I started out learning to paint with acrylic. They dry very fast and you have to mix the colors on your palette. With oils you can mix the colors right on the canvas. There is some kind of medium that you can mix with your acrylic paint to let it be pliable for a longer time. Maybe the site will tell you about that.
