Are you thinking of a vacation or just a day out? For a day out, try your local airport - see if there is a restaurant there where you can eat and watch the planes come and go. Take a short train trip (a stop or two on the commuter line or Amtrak) and have lunch at the destination and come back. Children's museums are a great idea - there are usually animals to look at and rooms set up just for them where they can touch interactive displays.
You can even have "a day out" right at home - just set up some dining room chairs in a circle, cover with a sheet and go camping. Prepare a picnic and hide animals around the house for them to find (scavenger hunt)

Being it's winter, teach them how to skate, if you can't get someone that is good with kids to, a childs self confidence is largely increased with acomplishments. If skateing is out sleding is good with mom or dad, faimly activities is most inportant to childern.Or just simply find an equal activity all can take part maybe together. God bless, Don H

I took my children to Deerfield Beach, FL. It was nice, somewhat quite. The hotel was across a service road from the beach and they had a great pool. (Embassy Suites) There was also stuff to do in Ft. Lauderdale and not far from Miami.

Take them to a hotel just for fun. Kids like to get out of the house. Pick a hotel somewhere close to your house and rent a room. Try to pick one with a pool. Then you just let your kids hang out and have fun!

Kids tend to remember "fun" more than "nice". Any kid I've taken fishing for the day, for example, has a better time than being at a fancy restaurant. They need time with you more than anything else. I'd take them to a fun place. Start out with a park and end up at a pizza joint. Kids are easy to please if you give them your time and a sincere effort to understand them.

If you're only going for one day, Sesame Place or Hershey Park are nice places for a day trip.

If your like me you don't have the money for that stuff. My kids love going to the movies, or roller skaiting. They love going to cool restuarants too. Good luck
