Anxiety and panic attacks can be managed. There are many good books out there. Call your community mental health centre. They offer groups on dealing with panic attacks.

Yes many people with panic don't take medications. Most of them will choose to see a psychologist who specializes in biofeed back therapy which is really great for it. Many people will become aware of their body sensations and will be able to tell when they are tense, anxious etc and stop the full blown attack before it starts. Having Xanax on hand in a just in case works too. Many people take this drug only when they clearly need it, and then don't take it again until they are having an attack that they don't think they can get themselves out of.

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

Some panic attacks can lead to psudeo heart attachs or pseduo seizures. I had panic attacks which basically revealed themselves as seizures. The docotor told me that I had an anxiety disorder and depression--because of the things that have happened to me. She perscribed me medicine, but I just pinned that perscription up on the wall. And I've yet to take it yet. Instead I work out at the gym alot and help other people! I havent had an attack since. I get a feeling sometimes---but I try and stay strong and focused. You can do that too!

I have panic attack disorder. And my attacks get so bad that my heart races, I get nauseated, I sweat and sometimes pass out. Or I even cut. I don't think that there is a natural cure for panic attacks, at least mine anyways because mine come from PTSD, so I need to keep up with my therapy and take meds to help me handle them better.

I was leading a high stress life, just got divorced and then I got this medical diagnosis that I just couldn't handle. I started to get severe panic attacks. They made my life impossible to live. I first went the natural route and tried St. John's Wort and many other things, but ended up having to go on Lexapro and Lorazapam. I am currently trying to wean off the Lorazapam as the Lexapro kicks in more. I am also practicing deep yoga breathing, which really seems to help the heart rate and panic feelings. I hope to be able to eventually kick the Lexapro and get back to normal living, but in my case, I needed it to get through a crisis where my nervous system just couldn't seem to "right" itself. Everyone's situation is completely different.

Despite what you'll hear, a lot of things are actually better cured on your own. Panic attacks stem from a deeper problem, and you have the power to fix it. Depression is the same.

So, yes, it is possible.

Panic attacks vary from very mild to very severe. If they prevent you from leading a normal life, you should think about treatment. Hypnosis works for some people, but the preferred non-pill treatment involves exposing you to the panic situation repeatedly until your brain stops treating it as a threatening event. You can do this yourself if your reaction is not too severe, but there are professionals who will use this treatment.

I still get claustrophobic panic attacks in viewing scenes like people crawling into narrow caves, but I no longer get them in dark shower stalls.

I don't take meds but I still have them. It really depends on whether you want to learn to live with them or if you want to take meds to make them stop. Can you tell when you are going to have one? Mine are situational so I always know or at least have an idea of when one will or could occur. If yours are the same, you can ask your doctor for a wafer type medication (Xanax or Kolonopin) that you take only when needed. You don't take it daily so your body doesnt become dependent on them. If you have them often and can't tell when one is coming, then you should ask for a daily med. It will greatly improve your life.... and its an easy fix.

Try the amino acid; GABA. It is a natural tranquilzer but is non-addicting and it doesn't 'get you off' like valium, xanex, etc.
