Lexie: Several of Dawkins, books? You don't really seem to know who he is, do you? He's only written a single book on the subject of God and religion - the rest, including the seminal "The Selfish Gene" have nothing to do with it. Doesn't hold a candle to Collins? C'mon! Collins is a mere taxidermist compared to the major intellectual force that Dawkins has become in the world of science since the 1970s. You severely exaggerate your knowledge and it shows.

I wonder if Christians actually listen to themselves talk?

I haven't read much from Harris yet,but I've read many of Dawkin's books, which are full of conjectures, assumptions and presumptions and based mostly on his own personal beliefs. Dawkins uses the guise of science to promote his atheism, thus his extreme popularity among the atheists. He is just a glorified choir boy for the atheist population. If Dawkins wouldn't be so outspoken against God, he would be just another scientist in a long list of scientists, and the atheists wouldn't give him a second thought.Actually, that goes for any scientists who keeps their religious views to themselves. Atheists only admire those who speak out against religion.Dawkins certainly doesn't hold a candle to Francis Collins who is the Director of The Human Genome Project, and who is also a former atheist converted to Christianity. Atheists completely ignore Collins because of his belief in God,even though his scientific accomplishmnets have far exceeded any accomplishments by Dawkins.Actually,I can't think of anything Dawkins has done for science except to write books that have already been written by others, but in his own biased words.

I haven't, but I have read The Origin of Species, and I've also read a couple books by Stephen Hawking. I actually own the Origin of Species.
I also own several science textbooks which I bought, and yes, I've read them, as well as several books by Erich Fromm.
Oh, and two copies of the Koran, and several books about Buddhism.
I don't limit myself to just the Bible, and I researched for twelve years before I came back to Christianity.

Have you ever read anything by Josh McDowell, Ralph Muncaster, Lee Strobel, or Dr John Ashton? How about Mere Christianity by CS Lewis? Anything by Saint Augustine, or Thomas Aquinas?

It really is boring the way people keep trotting out Dawkins. He started off with a premise and used the facts that fitted in with that premise and ignored all others. He is also blinded by his own rhetoric. If people want to use scientists, I wish they would go with some who are reasonable and start with an open mind and not a closed one. One to read is Stephen Hawking, Dawkins is not in the same class.

I've read Dawkins, and I'm not impressed. He basically assumes that all theists are supernaturalists. If he's going to know HIS enemy he should spend some time reading what contemporary theologians actually have to say.

EDIT:

Thumbs down, eh? Now that says a lot to me.

Why don't you try reading something by John Polkinghorne. It might give you a clue where Dawkins has gone wrong.

Sure. Their theories are interesting, but totally flawed.

Other suggested reading material in this review of Hawking's book:

In his best-selling book "A Brief History of Time", physicist Stephen Hawking claimed that when physicists find the theory he and his colleagues are looking for - a so-called "theory of everything" - then they will have seen into "the mind of God".
