I have about $500 to spend. I don’t know where to market and how to do it. I know that this business will work but I just don’t know how to get it started. I install TV on the walls and install surround sound systems also. My prices are about 30% below the going rate. Please help?

You've sold me...

contact the local SBA (small business association). They can give you help on how to market, and often have grants and financial help to get your business boing.

Good Luck

Put your free advertizement on Craigslist. Say you are new and probably can do it for free for first 10 installs. Give a little bit background on your skill set.

Some people might give you a shot.. those who are probably DIY type but need an extra hand. They might also help you out in learning some special cases while actually on the field.

Take pictures of your installs after 10 or so.. and then put your ad again with those pictures and competetive pricing.

Finally save your $500 for your lunch and dinner till first 10 installs

Approach some retailers and offer your services.
Put fliers out there particularly in new home developments.
Talk to home builders and see if they want to offer this as a feature for their homes.
Take a small ad $100-$150 in a local newspaper
Target older people as they seem less knowledgeable about hi-tech equipment and installing cables etc.

Go to the stores that sell them. Give them business cards and offer a referral fee.
If you have a digital camera, take pictures of your completed jobs and get testimonial letters. Post these on your website, which you can get for free from microsoft.

If you have no clientele and no capital....then what exactly qualifies you as a business?
