To bring your own food, you need to have the reception at someone's home or backyard.

In order to serve food in a banquet hall, you need to have a license. Same for alcohol, and insurance too. I don't think your families have this license, so the halls won't allow it because they'll be liable should something go wrong. The only way to get around this is to take the liability on yourselves by hosting the party at a private residence.

That said, some places might allow this. Try the VFW, parish hall, or community center.

You are totally best off finding a house with a big yard. My brother just got married last October (2006), and they had 2 1/2 months to put something together, with hardly any budget. They tried a few friends, and got no where. But then his (now wife) went around town looking at big houses with big yards. And guess what!? The first one she stopped said he'd love to let them use his yard! Not to mention, the guy was one of the wealthiest guys around, and even better - - - He owned his own landscaping company, so the back yard was GORGEOUS, with fountains and rivers and trees and flowers and tons of stuff.

Anyways, they ended up having 200 people, just like you, and the guy only charged them $1000 for both ceremony and reception! It was awesome, and really worked out great.

So obviously it doesn't always go that great, but the point is that you have plenty of time to do your searching, and don't get discouraged because tons of people have been through it before. Things will fall into place, and be encouraged that good things to happen! Doors will open if you keep on knocking!

Best of luck to you as you plan the best day of your life, and remember that it doesn't have to go downhill from there! You get out of it what you put into it. Hope this is helpful to you, or at least provided you with some good story time!!!

this basically isn't basic, yet lots relies upon on a pair of belongings you probably did not aspect out. First, is $3000 the entire wedding ceremony budget (which incorporates dress, invites, postage, attendant presents, license, officiant, etc), or basically the reception budget? for sure, it enables lots if this is basically the reception budget. also, what time of day? If it really is midafternoon, it will be lots more straightforward because you are able to damage out with cake, some beverages, and perchance some mild appetizers like veggie platters, cheese and crackers, etc. i might want to imagine you would nevertheless choose some tables for human beings to sit down and visit, or munch, etc. The worst case difficulty might want to be that $3000 is your entire wedding ceremony budget and it is a evening adventure. if so, i imagine you are able to properly be compelled to diminish the visitor record again. area of that could want to count number on how a lot you would opt to beautify, yet at a minimum, you would certainly choose tables, tablecloths and centerpieces. And this does no longer even get into the price of feeding some variety of dinner equivalent, plus in spite of beverages you would pick. you are able to likely do it if $3000 is the reception budget. there is lots of low value nutrition that could want to correctly be prepared, reckoning on what variety of centers you'll have get entry to to.

Try the country clubs, some will let you bring your own food. I had my wedding and reception all in the same room of a country club, and it was beautiful.

This idea may not be for you, but my wedding is being held in a large cabin in a local state park. It's on a mountain top. You don't say which state you're in, but if you're in Maryland, check out Gambrill State Park.
