The socket area probably hasn't covered over completely yet, this usually takes several months to do. This leaves a "crevice" or small indentation that can easily "trap food" particles and leave it there even after brushing and a mild rinse. You may want to vigorously swish (which can take a few times of really hard swishing!) or lightly brush over and check the sites to make sure everything was removed during brushing, flossing and the through rinsing process. You can't dislodge any clots or reopen the site now, so clean them out really well and you'll taste and smell the difference in your mouth. This is a common complaint after extractions and happens to most patients during this filling in process which takes a different amount of time for each individual person. Hope I've been of some help, just give it a try and you'll see the difference immediately!

are you being good about brushing, flossing and swishing with mouthwash? It may be an infection, or rotting gums...call your dentist and have them check it out.

I feel bad for you. Try using pain killers. The pills the doc gave you might be more to heal it rather then to reduce the pain.
