Yes, 13 is a rough age, you are going through so many changes, physically and emotionally. It is normal that you feel down, however it is not normal to be wanting to die. Do you have problems at home or school that are depressing you? First it is important to find the source of your depression. I have a daughter that is 13 and she is going through a hard time with emotions and friends and school. It is so hard. Maybe you should talk to a school counselor and then go from there. I also would be happy to chat with you if you just need a friend. If you would like to talk just drop me an email, if not that's ok, but if you begin having suicidal thoughts get help immediately! This is a serious issue and suicide is extremely final, there is always an answer to a problem and a way to solve it. Good luck and take care.

Umm it really depends. Do you feel like this all the time? Or is it sometimes? How bad is it?
Some of these people answering your question are just being a**holes, or are ignorant. Anyway, it's hard to tell the severiety of what you're calling depression and whatnot by such a short description. Really, as you become a teenager you're going to be experiencing lots of emotional rollercoasters. But I'm going to treat this as if you really do need help *just in case* it's the advice you do in fact need, since everyone else has given the other side of the fence advice being "everyone gets down sometimes"
If you *really* do feel that down and everything, try talking to someone because depression and feeling low all the time can affect you a whole lot, and can be hard to get out of alone - kids can get depressed and adults who laugh at it saying "oh you'll get over it" ought to know whether or not how bad it is before making these statements - adults can also claim to be depressed and all when they really just need a pick-me-up too. If you really are that bad off, get some sort of outside help. I was only 14 when I started getting depressed a lot and people just told me "oh you're a kid, what do you know about stress, blah blah blah" and guess what, it ended up I really did need help but didn't get it and depression has been a big force in my life, along with fascilitating many other problems throughout the past 8 years (I'm 22 now).

Your life is being wasted because you are spending too much time thinking about how depressed you are. For god's sake cheer up!! Eat some ice cream (okay maybe not the best idea considering the weather), watch your favourite film 100 times. give a random person a hug in the street. Do something just to make life worth living. Stop being so bloody depressing.
SMILE :)

Babe, you have a whole entire life ahead of you! Whatever there is that's bothering you now will be an idiotic thought when you get older, the older you get, the more little things get less and less bothersome, try to live your life a little, or at least try to find something good to hold onto, what kept me alive was the thought of my friends and family and how they supported me (for the most part). This is just a phase you'll get over it. Oh yeah, don't let any shrinks or doctors tell you what to do or think. They did that to me, and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I eventually found that just being alive and having a few good friends was all I needed. Try and take care of YOURSELF!

Yes, kinda. Please don't make yourself WANT to die... Life is beautiful and you should enjoy it. I'm sure you've liked your life at least once. You will be happy in the future and realize that life is AMAZING and the BEST thing you could EVER imagine of. Just forget your problems and go to a mall or something and have fun. Many poeple in this world think their lives SUCK and want to die. But my question is would you REALLY die? Life is more than what you think it is... look at the bright side and you'll forget about your worries and bad thoughts... Remember you are EXCELLENTLY SPECIAL! Good Luck! :)

Sooo ur probly jus goin through that kind of stage, bt i think that wanting to DIE!!! is a bit harsh. I mean is ur life really that bad? Think about it, ur still a kid, uve got no resopnsibilities whatsoever and uve got your whole life ahead of you.
My advice to you is to stop being silly and enjoy ur teens because beleive me thay aint there 4 long and there the best years of you life hunny!

No that's not normal. Teenage years are an emotional time but you shouldn't feel like that. Speak to your mum, tell her how you are feeling. You may need to go and see your doctor though be sure, if they prescribe any type of medication, that they explain to you all the possible side effects and implications of the treatment. If you can start keeping a diary of how you are feeling that may be very helpful too.

as bart simpson said... finding depressed teenagers is like shooting fish in a barrell.
c'mon, what have you got to be depressed about? spots, weight, the girls think your a dweeb...
wait untill you have all that, plus all the household bills, gas power phone, baby needs new shoes, car failed its MOT and is going to cost hundreds to fix... blah blah blah...
all you have to do is entertain yourself.. thats it.. mum cooks, cleans, does your washing... wait until you hit the streets at 16, on your own, with NO support.. then you can be depressed, you can even hang your head a little...
until then, do your homework, tidy your room and stop whingeing, look around you... i read somewhere that if you have a roof over your head, eat 3 times a day, and have access to the internet, then you are privelidged to have something which over 90% of teh rest of the world don't have.
you arent depressed, youre just bored...
when we were kids school hols lasted like, forever. WHY? because we had nothig to do bar play and entertain ourselves.. now as a 50yr old, i dont get time to be bored...
from my point of view a year lasts maybe 4 months. we blink, and a whiole season has gone by... it was christmas a couple of weeks ago, summer holidays in 4 months... then itll be christmas again in a few weeks...
youre only 13 once, enjoy it while it lasts...

well of course since you're 13, you're going through a lot of changes at the moment. i would say that no, its not normal that you want to DIE but, but the boredom and depression is very normal. i would just try getting out and taking walks with friends and more social things like that.
i really hope this helped!!

Don't worry--it gets better. You're having normal 13-year-old emotions, and they do go away. And don't believe people when they try to tell you that "these are the best years of your life." They aren't--they get much better. Later on, you don't have to worry so much about being in the "in" group, or people making fun of you, etc. They grow up. Wait until you get to college--it's hard work, but THAT's fun.
