You have too much sugar & butter for the amount of flour. A better proportion would be 225 gr flour, 175 gr. sugar, 175 gr butter, 3 eggs. Don't forget baking powder (2 teasp for this amount of flour) & milk & vanilla essence. As a child starting to bake cakes I was told '6, 4, 4, 2.' ie 6 ozs flour, 4 ozs sugar, 4 ozs butter & 2 eggs. If you search for madera cake recipes on the Internet you will find several. Enjoy your baking!

I'd say maybe only 1 egg and 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder if using plain flour

You need some baking powder, or baking soda, and salt, and vanilla. Baking needs correct porportions or it will not rise.
