It's amazing for me to read many of the above answers and how wrong some of them are. I live in Thailand, and for one guy to say it's tropical and it can rain any time of the year, is flat wrong. Right now, and from Nov.-Mar. is the dry seaon in central Thailand, we've probably had one day of rain in the last six weeks. And for another to say the rainy season should be over by early October is nuts. October is the second rainiest month after September, so statiscally early October is one wettest times of the year. It is true that many times the rain is just 20-30 min. downpour, and after that the weather is fine, but not always. You can get average rainfall stats on weather.com, but rain or not, it's always nice here, Have fun!

October is on the end of the rainy season. While its subject to rain at any time, that does not mean it will rain all the time. For example I was visiting here in 2003 and the last two weeks of October saw rain 3 times. the same time frame in 2005 saw rain daily. It is still a great place to visit and a good time too. The high season starts in November.

Last time I was there October was great with just a few showers which didn't spoil the fun. However, got stuck on an island late November early December with horrendous weather and no boats sailing - which just goes to show that the weather can be unpredictable everywhere...

When is the best time to visit Thailand?
From July to October is the monsoonal season when most of Thailand's annual rainfall is accumulated. The humidity averages just under 90%, with temperatures averaging around 29º C in Bangkok.

Good choice, Thailand is amazing. Best time to visit Thailand is from Nov. till Feb. October isn' t bad time. Don't forget that Thailand is a tropical country and it can rain in every season. I've been there and i loved it. I'll be again in Thailand next month. Buy a " lonely-planet " Thailand's guide. It is very helpfull for travellers. Rain can come at any time but usually lasts around 20 Mins at the Most and the Water drains quite quickly.
If you are still around in November make sure that you do not miss the Loy Krathong Festival.
