Urgent? If you have MS its a life long battle the urgency doesn't come in to play.

The doc is recommending an MRI since he want's to have a baseline image which he can compare over the years. MS is not a quickly progressing disease however it can be very debilitating.
Remember that the major visual symptom of MS is lesions on the brain which can be visualized through MRI. If the doc orders followup scans in the future, he'll be able to compare the to this baseline and find out whether any of the treatments they are performing work. Every patient is different therefore standard therapy doesn't have the same effect on everyone.
I don't think there is any question to have an MRI immediately, especially because of the blindness to ensure that it is MS and not something else. However, the ordering physician might just be ordering for the baseline.

Well this one I can speak of from personal experience having been diagnosed with " MS "back in 1995. However I've had 4 MRI's since then and each one was NOT considered all that valuable in determing where my "lesions" were on my spinal column. I have what is considered"relapsing remitting MS" and over the years that diagnosis has now changed to what they now call "TM >>transverse myelitis" which essentially is the same damn thing with the same damn symptoms. Only difference to me is my neurologist and other team of medical specialists, say they dont see a day where I will ever be in a wheel chair because of this ailment. Of course there are different levels of MS and it sounds like your friend should definitely seek immediate medical attention. There are other tests that will be done to determine if its MS but keep in mind, MS is a very difficult disease to determine because of the differences people experience in their symptoms It also took over 3 years for me to get a diagnosis but there is alot of new and good news on the horizon these days with the prognosis of this disease. Good luck..

I would recommend her getting this MRI as soon as possible..
First of all for a peace of mind.. if nothing else..maby it turns out that she does not have MS..and maby a more treatable illness..
Buit even if she has MS, there are some meds that can keep the damage done to a minimum and the desease under control a bit..
Montel Williams has MS and he seems to be doing just fine..
So go back to the doc,and PERSIST in homto oder an MRI NOW!
It is very good to know what is going on,totally painless..
As a matter of fact if the insurance would pay for this as part of a wellness check up,I would suggest that everyone have one done, to catch deseases earlier..
My son (6) had an MRI not too long ago, because he kept having migraines behind the same eye.no cold or flu sypmptoms, just a personality change, and migraines.the doc ordered an MRI to check for a tumor..comming to find out he has been having a pretty BAD Sinus Infection, which would have never been detected until it turned into something more serious like Mastoiditis..now he is on Antibiotics for 21 days, thanks to the MRI I might of prevented him from getting even sicker..
Go get it checked out OK?

It should happen with a few weeks, MS isn't a disease that can be prevented and there aren't any med that will prevent it when it is diagnosised. A friend of mine may have MS and he had an MRI and there weren't enough lesions on his brain at this time to diagnosis MS so he has to wait to have several more epsiodes before they can diagnosis it without doubt. The rush is not life or death.

She needs to go ahead and schedule it then. She doesn't need to run out and get it done the same day as the doctor suggested it, but needs to go ahead and make her appointment to have it done.
Anytime someone is facing a diagnosis of such a serious nature, the sooner that diagnosis can be confirmed or dismissed the better. If your friend is found to have MS she should learn about treatment options, etc. as soon as possible to do whatever is in her power to do to slow the progression of this illness. Knowledge is power - encourage her to have the test done soon.

Yes, I also believe she needs a CAT scan. This is a standard procedure. In order to receive proper treatment so the disease can be controlled (medication to prevent swift progression). There is no cure for MS. Very sad disease as it is very damaging. Give your friend a hug, she will need support.

MRI is less invasive than many tests. MS is still "diagnosed" by elimination. The allopaths don't know what they are doing mostly about this problem (also) so get good information. It might be a shortage of histamine, and it might be a sensitivity to chocolate.

A good idea, but no urgency, since the knowledge gained is going to have little if any impact on the immediate course of the disease.
