I know the streets are full of water and floating objects but what can be done to reduce the water level? Do people just wait? What happens to all that water? Does a catchment area need to be built to collect this floodwater? How long will it take for the water to go away? Especially in the context of the Jakarta floods. It's really terrible to have natural disasters destroy a city.
Serious answers only please.
Thanks very much.

They just wait for the water to go down. Then clean up the mess.
