After you find that site, consider a search that will allow you to input what your lifestyle is like, what your time restrictions are etc...then the engine tells you what dog will fit best.

For example, labs and goldens are most popular. But if you want a small dog, this won't help you much.

Yorkies are in MY opinion, the best small dog. Pugs snore, beagles often have a stink that won't go away, maltese bark a lot etc. But that's just my experience...with a lot of dogs.

Big dogs are more easily potty trained.

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and they are the kindest, most lovable family dog ever. But they shed like mad.

Also, consider going to the pound. If you don't HAVE to, don't consider size or a specific look too much. Engage with several dogs, dogs you may not think are as cute or as fancy. You may come home with a crazy looking mutt that steals your heart, is already trained and loves you unconditionally for saving him.

You can get the 10 most popular dogs on the AKC website. If you are looking for the best dog for you, there are tests to match you to a breed. I think the purina or pedigree website has one, and perhaps the AKC website as well (www.akc.org).

If you go to akc.com, it will bring up all of the breeds and classify them into the different groups and give you results from there
