My son has Down syndrome and I firmly believe that he was made in God's image. My son is extraordinary and special. He connects with people in ways I have never seen before. He is capable of great love (and, at 2 1/2 years old, great temper tantrums). We are not on this earth to judge, but to love one another. Everyone is different in some way and having Down syndrome is not a punishment nor is it a dread disease. It's simply a difference. God's message is one of love and I cannot imagine a love any greater than that which I have for my son.

You don't say whether you are the parent of a child born with Downes or not; but I'm guessing you may be or know somebody who is. I was born with multiple, severe birth defects. As an adult, I now look back and have such admiration and respect for my parents and the way they handled this trial. It is never easy being a parent. I believe this is even more true for the parent of a special-needs child. I also believe the Lord sees something very special in the people He entrusts with the care of a special-needs child.
Let me be honest: Over the years I've probably asked myself thousands of times why God allows things like this to happen—and I still don't know the full answer. The Bible speaks of "the mystery of iniquity"—and that is what evil is: a mystery (2 Thessalonians 2:7, KJV).
But what I do know is this: No matter what happens to us, God still loves us and He still cares for us. He knows your pain and heartache, and He knows the grief you and your son's family are going through. Jesus' promise is for you: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). We may not always understand why evil things happen—but God does, and we can turn to Him for the comfort we need.
The child with Downs has a guaranteed ticket to Heaven. Take comfort in that. And take comfort that you can also have a guaranteed ticket to Heaven by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

God is angry because there are few pirates around to worship Him so he sends Down Syndrome to people so that they may not think of doing evil and follow rightly on His path. Once they get lucky and be converted and follows His way, God would not need Down Syndrome anymore and the world would be a happier place.
The FSM wishes you good luck and peace,
and RAmen to you, brother.

God didn't plan it that way AT ALL. God created mankind PERFECT. It was man himself who decided for himself as to what is right and what is wrong. Once we picked up that load, God has allowed us to carry it. He has promised a time when, if we follow Him, the mistakes we made to bring such hurts as disease and death upon ourselves as a species will be done away with, and it will be as it was in the beginning. Perfect earth. Perfect humans. Forever.

A person with Down's Syndrome is an innocent. They bring into their familys' lives a special sweetness. The also are God's teachers. They teach patience, understanding, unselfishness and most of all, love. I think these are special souls who choose this path to further the growth of the souls around them.

It's God's plan not ours, so why do you think WE have an answer! I suppose it fits in just like a genius or savant.

I'm not a christian, but those who have Downs Syndrome are the absolutely sweetest, kindest and most loving people I've ever met.. if there is a Creator, they were sent directly from Him/Her to show us how to love.

I know I'm going to get a lot of thumbs-down for this, but I must state the truth:
God's plan is imaginary.
