my neutered male cat is harassing the fixed female cats in house, and apparently in the neighborhood too.

can male cates that are fixed still want/try to mate?

i forgot to say that he is 1.5 years old and was neutered at 6mos old. he never went outside or spent time with female cats before then.

he has become very moody lately, doesnt come when i call him like he did when he was younger.

a was also confused because i thought that without testicals (unlike a vasectomy) he cant produce sperm. and he should never have had any hormones enter his system since he was neutered so young.

as far as i understand mating in cats is not a pleasent experience, both cats get scratched and bitten. the female cat has scratches on her neck and a claw fragment in her nose... she hid for 5 hours after the last scuffle. nothing charming and "let him have his way with her" about it...

one of our fixed female cats is very shy and small. but her mother is very protective and can scratch the living daylights out of all the other cats in the house. :(

very rarely this can happen. ask your vet about giving him some meg ace. for a few weeks, this works very well. and by the way meg ace is used as a birth control for intact female cats. try this and see if it works, this time of year is the busy season for cats to breed. lets hope he was not a cryt organ( where one testie is up in the abdominal area) your vet may have one got the descending on.

And just to add to that -- some male cats, if they have been outside and have been sexually active for a significant period of their lives, may continue to have a sex life well after neutering. But with the testicles gone, he can no longer impregnate the lucky ladies. In addition, some females who have borne litters and who have a relationship with the former tom, even after the females are spayed, will continue to accept male advances.

We have 3 males, all neutered, and all 3 still very interested in the female that we care for who is not spayed. When she goes into heat they all try to take care of her and she still goes to them for attention. Our vet told us that it is normal as they were altered after the age of 9 months and that the only way to control it is to get her spayed.

All are indoor cats and none have ever been outside except for when we moved. The female is not ours but she is going to be spayed as soon as possible.

I am a veterinary Technician of 4 years and major in animal behavior as well. Yes even though they are neutered it is still one of their dominant acts to still try to mate.........is is also a dominant way of them telling the others who is the boss around there....

yes they still get the urge like a human that gets vasectomy or her tubes tied. they still have sex only in a safe way, its that simple.getting cats fixed is so they don't have unwanted kittens, which is a huge problem in any country.

Yes - came across my 11-year-old cat at it just the other day. He had the snip when he was two, so was sexually mature by that stage.

Yes exspecially if he was just neuterered, but even if he has been a while they still get the urge.
