My husband gave him a chocolate cookie which we soon learned did not agree well with the dog. He keeps going under my desk and crapping, and he is let out at least 6 times a day. He usually lets us know if he needs to go out. he will come in and sit in front of us and stare at us. But he hasn't been doing that, the only time we see him is after he pooed, with his tail between his legs. I'm so sick of him crapping, how do I get the crap out of the carpet so he stops going in the same spot? I am at my whits ends with this dog. HELP!!!!!

One cookie isn't going to cause that much poop. It sounds as if your dog needs to visit the vet.

You should be at your whits end with your husband NOT your dog. He could have KILLED THE DOG! any amount of chocolate can be toxic to dogs. one cookie even. every dog reacts to chocolate in different ways. and now your dog is sick and NOTHING you do will stop him from crapping on your carpet. have your hubby clean it up its his fault. just be glad that instead of haveing a seizure or vomiting and dying, your dog just has a bad case of the shits...thats his bodys way of getting rid of the toxins..just make sure he is drinking. But if it has been a few days since the cookie then your dog may have a stomach virus. My dog had a stomach virgus a few weeks ago and all I could do was let him outside alot and make sure he was drinking. if your dog isnt drinking anything then you may need to take him to the vet to have him put on an IV for fluids so he doesnt dehydrate anymore then he already is.

It's clear your dog knows he shouldn't go inside in some capacity. His tail between his legs indicates that he acknowledges something is wrong. The trick is what is wrong. Does he associate going inside with being wrong or does he associate something else (like being by your desk) as being wrong?

If possible, close off your desk area to your dog. Get carpet cleaner and thoroughly clean the area. There are products out there that can easily clean small areas and remove all odors and even scents that only your dog can smell. But blocking the area is the first step.

The second is to actually catch your dog in the act. This may take some time, but once you do, go back to your puppy training days. Catch him in the act, give a "No!" and quickly take him outside. Praise him to excess once he goes outside. That will remind him of where he's supposed to go. Do NOT yell, complain or fuss endlessly. He may start to associate going inside with receiving attention (even if it's negative attention) which is not a good thing.

There can be health issues as well. Your dog is only 6, which is relatively young. But perhaps for his breed, he could be getting up in age. As my last dog aged, he did have more issues of going in the house. So a good vet check with blood work should be done. If there is an illness, his lack of bowel control could be a sign.

Chocolate is not good for dogs, but I have found that sometimes a larger breed can "handle" a cookie, so I don't think all of this is caused from one cookie. But in the future, be very careful about chocolate.

Lastly, keep letting him out as often as you do and ensure that he has a place to go outside. For example, is the weather so cold and frigid that his time outside is short? Is the yard covered in snow or feces? It may be that he can't find a place to go or that he's not ouside long enough to go. Even though he's six and appears trained, sometimes a slight change in homes or environment will cause a change in his behavior.

To summarize, have your dog checked by your vet with blood work testing. Then thoroughly clean your carpet (use those "urine begone" type of products too) and block off the desk, if possible. Ensure that when he's outside, he actually does relieve himself. Praise him whenever he goes outside. Try to catch him in the act. Don't yell, just rush him outside and again praise him when he goes. Avoid chocolate.

Good luck!

"Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs. You can recognize that your dog has eaten a toxic dose of chocolate from the symptoms. Within the first few hours, the evidence includes vomiting, diarrhea or hyperactivity. As time passes and there's increased absorption of the toxic substance, you'll see an increase in the dog's heart rate, which can cause arrhythmia, restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination or excessive panting."

It doesn't ssound like your dog has any of these symptoms but considering that this has gone on for a week straight I would take him to a vet just to be on the safe side. If you aren't going to take him to a vet at least try to feed him a thing of chicken and rice baby food (it always calms my dogs' stomaches). Good Luck and please don't let your dog have chocolate! That was a very irresponsible thing for your husband to do.

You do realize that chocolate is toxic to dogs? If you have a small dog one cookie, especially one of those giant ones from the warehouses, could kill your dog. I would take the dog to the vet for a checkup. It sounds like there might be something serious going on. A sudden change in bathroom habits is not a good thing.

I have just spent 2 months nursing a dog with colon cancer.... My baby was 18 months old and passed away peacefully on 5 Feb 2007... 2 months of waking at 5 am to administer medication and staying awake til midnight to admisister the last medication of the day, clean poop from wherever she had left it (not poop actually but blood stained water from her bowels) bathing and administering cream to her sore bottom. She could not control her bowels and did wherever she had to

Don't ever give your dog chocolate of any form ever again and hopefully he will stop this quite soon.. If not it's time to re train your dog.

I am sorry for the mess you have had to deal with .. (and no pun intended) But I would give anything to be cleaning up poggie doo right now just to have my Leah back for 5 minutes to hold her again... Carpets can be cleaned and replaced but your dog can't.

Good luck with this and seeing as your hubbie gave the choccie buscuit I would make him scrub the floors
