I am sorry that your last cat was hit by a car, but keeping a cat indoors is cruel. I have had cats all my life, they need the stimulation of what outdoors brings, no cat toys can bring that. They can't get any fresh air, climb trees, lay in the sun, mix with other cats or hunt.I know hunting is not a nice thought, but part of a cat's nature which if you are going to keep cats have to accept.

This may sound harsh, but I really feel that owners are being selfish. What does it matter what a cat may be worth in monetary turms? All cats should be loved the same and have their freedom, whatever their breed.

At the end of the day, a cat chooses his or her owner, they have their own mind, and it's not fair on them to keep them locked up.

I'm sorry for your loss. You can keep your new cat indoors, and I agree with the other answerer that it's best not to let him get any taste for the outdoors at all. But Siamese cats, as you know, are very smart and get esily bored. Many people have found that Siamese cats kept indoors can become destructive because of this. You will need to make sure there is plently of stimulation for him and that you keep him company a lot. Those large cat 'aerobic centres' with scratching posts and different levels are good.

But you and everyone else in the house will have to be very vigilant about keeping doors and windows closed, summer and winter - you know how skinny a Siamese can make himself when he wants to get through a gap!! If you have a garden, and alternative might be to build a secure outdoor run with ramps and climbing posts for him to play in.

I have a 3 mth old Siamese kitten. And yes they are very mischievous and adventurous. With the 1st one you should have learned that. And if you couldnt keep up with it being that way why get another 1. They are expensive and not made to be outdoors. I live on a farm and have outdoor cats but WILL not let this one out.

Just keep him in always. The best way is don't even let him see outdoors. My cat was also hit by a car, I'm still not over it. If I ever get another one, it well never see outdoors.
Let your cat be mischievous and adventurous indoors only!!

I had to keep cats indoors after moving house and they rebelled! My advice is that in the beginning they find it hard to understand and feel trapped. If the cat has plenty of 'hunting' style games to play and lots of toys and 'challenges' it will mean the cat is happy and forfilled. A scratching post is a great substitute for a tree and hiding cat treats inside cat toys is a great way to keep them amused for hours. Also male cats if they are not 'neutered' tend to be a bit 'spirited' so consider having him 'done'.

Grab some kitty toys to keep him occupied in doors. Maybe a kitty tree, or something. You can go buy one (I know they are expensive) or make one with wood and carpet. You can also try to get him trained on a leash, so he can still be outside, with out the frustration of him being in doors all the time. It is natural for a cat to want to be out doors, just dangerous if you live somewhere where they can easily be hit by a car.

I have two siamese cats, one neutered and the other is a tom. The tom is always wanting out and will stay gone for days at a time, whereas the neutered one has no desire to go out. Maybe this is something to think about, getting your cat neutered?

Is your cat a kitten or full grown? which ever he is I don't think that Siamese cats should be out doors, they are a special breed & expensive, they shouldn't go outside unless you train him to be on a leash, which may be difficult, cats have a mind of their own as i'm sure you know.Give him plenty of space indoors to play, have toys for him to play with, but don't just let him out on his owm or you'll probably lose him too, take care.

Make indoors a very interesting place for him with one room especially dedicated for his play-scratch-climb toys and furniture. Set up a window perch for him where he can lay around on or sit to watch birds and squirrels through the closed glass window. When you know that you will be going outside or someone will be coming in and you have to open the exit door, make sure that kitty is not around to see it.
