Same reason they sterilize the lethal injection needle

Ever flown in a WW II era plane ? These helmets had partly a thermal insulation factor and I believe headsets for radios and
a handy place for sun goggles. I don't know what altitudes they flew at but at a certain height, cold can be distracting.

Even some minimal protection could enable a pilot to complete a mission.

Helmets worn by all pilots are done to assure they don't die in midair from air loss, I believe. If they died before reaching their issued target, it's a life lost for nothing. Not like the kamikaze purpose makes sense, but then again, I wasn't around at that time.

If you've ever noticed, WW II "helmets" for flyers were cloth. There's no reason a guy about to die for his country should have to freeze his head off on the way to the battlefield.

To keep them from suffering frostbite or hypothermia when flying at altitude in those unpressurized open-cockpit planes, so that they could actually fly long enough to be able to strike their targets.

The earflaps also contained their radio headsets, so they could communicate with each other.

They are not helmet, it's a leather skull cap that holds the communication gear and on which you can attache the oxygen mask if needed.

They weren't. They just wore an official embroidered kamikazi headband made by their neighbors.

Why not, you don't want them to coordinate their attacks amongst each other? What are you, some kind of anti-japanese imperial army militant or something/????

Maybe they thought his head would do additional damage. I actually think that most wore a white bandana.
