Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.
Bhagavad-gita-2.12
As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change.Bhagavad-gita-2.13
Those who are seers of the truth have concluded that of the nonexistent [the material body] there is no endurance and of the eternal [the soul] there is no change. This they have concluded by studying the nature of both. Bhagavad-gita-2.16
An excerpt from the purport by Srila Prabhupada.
There is no endurance of the changing body. That the body is changing every moment by the actions and reactions of the different cells is admitted by modern medical science; and thus growth and old age are taking place in the body. But the spirit soul exists permanently, remaining the same despite all changes of the body and the mind. That is the difference between matter and spirit. By nature, the body is ever changing, and the soul is eternal. This conclusion is established by all classes of seers of the truth, both impersonalist and personalist. In the Vishnu Purana (2.12.38) it is stated that Vishnu and His abodes all have self-illuminated spiritual existence (jyotimsii vishnur bhuvanani vishnuh). The words existent and nonexistent refer only to spirit and matter. That is the version of all seers of truth.
That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.

The Soul According to the Bible
The Hebrew word translated “soul” is ne´phesh, and it occurs 754 times in the Hebrew Scriptures. What does ne´phesh mean? According to The Dictionary of Bible and Religion, it “usually refers to the entire living being, to the whole individual.” This is borne out by the Bible’s description of the soul at Genesis 2:7: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” Note that the first man “came to be” a soul. That is to say, Adam did not have a soul; he was a soul—just as someone who becomes a doctor is a doctor. The word “soul,” then, here describes the whole person.
The word translated “soul” (psy·khe´) appears more than a hundred times in the Christian Greek Scriptures. Like ne´phesh this word often refers to the whole person. Clearly, psy·khe´, like ne´phesh, refers to the whole person.
Interestingly, in the Bible the word “soul” applies not only to humans but also to animals. Genesis 1:20 Thus, the word “soul” as used in the Bible refers to a person or an animal or to the life that a person or an animal enjoys. The Bible’s definition of the soul is simple, consistent, and unencumbered by the complicated philosophies and superstitions of men. That being the case, the urgent question that must be asked is, According to the Bible, what happens to the soul at death?
The condition of the dead is made clear at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, where we read: “The dead know nothing . . . There is no pursuit, no plan, no knowledge or intelligence, within the grave.” (Moffatt) Death, therefore, is a state of nonexistence. The psalmist wrote that when a person dies, “he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.” (Psalm 146:4) The dead are unconscious, inactive.

The energy that science describes is entirely different from that described by supernaturalists. You can't expect to apply scientific laws about real energy to the fictional "energy" described by people who talk about "souls" and "psychic energy" and so on.
There is no such thing as a "soul", and the energy in the human body when we die is mostly lost as heat radiation (though I'm sure some goes into the physical decay process). It's an interesting question, once you get rid of the "soul" nonsense.
And oh my, the person in front of me gave a great answer. You don't see this kind of thoughtful response here very often. I'm impressed.

No energy can be destroyed but it does dissipate. For instance the energy of the sun is very strong near it, if the earth was any closer, we would all be crisp. But over distances the energy dissipates and becomes less effective. In essence it is spent, like fire burning oxygen, eventually the oxygen is gone and the fire/energy goes out.
So if our souls are made of energy, and are housed in the body, my guess is that when we die, the soul is released into the universe and it dissipates. If that is the case then the afterlife will be a very short one.

Souls are supernatural. Supernatural means that a soul operates outside that which is natural, and is not bound by the laws of nature or physics.
There is no empirical evidence of a soul's existence through any measurement of mass or energy, therefore souls do not exist in nature. (MacDougal doesn't count for reasons to numerous to go into, so don't believe the myth of the 21 grams)

You are your own immortal soul.
This "energy" has some similar properties to "material energy, but is not the same as. It's potential is unlimited.
However like material energy we can and do deteriorate.
Unlike material energy we can regenerate and rehabilitate ourselves.
Since the soul does not "die", when the body dies, there is a continuation of existence. There are also higher and lower states of existence.
At this time we are trapped in a long cycle of depending on meat bodies in order to operate, to the point where we consider ourselves to be meat bodies or part of the material universe.
But this is not our native state.
It is a reflection of our current level of deterioration.

And that has some truth to it. But that energy will live on for eternity...Which eternity will be spent in one of the 2 places. If we didn't have a soul, then our bodies wouldn't have life. And therefore, the soul/spirit of man can "only" come from God.

You are quoting old science. We now understand that energy CAN be "destroyed."
Physicists now speak of the conservation of mass-energy. The values are related by Einstein's E=mc^2 equation. Energy can change and mass can change. This is how nuclear reactors function, the naturally occurring process CONVERTS matter to energy.
... If you put energy into an electron, IT GETS HEAVIER. The "conversion factor" is c (the speed of light) squared. Yes, the math seems a bit like voodoo to those who haven't studied it, but it does really work.

My own study of the Bible has convinced me that our souls or spirits go immediately into the presence of God when we die. The Apostle Paul wrote that those of us who are Christians "would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Although the Bible doesn't answer all our questions about life after death, it clearly tells us that we can look forward to heaven's joys when we die, if we know Christ. Shortly before His death and resurrection, Jesus told His disciples, "I am going there to prepare a place for you ... that you also may be where I am" (John 14:2-3). The Bible also says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
The most important truth I can tell you about heaven, however, is that we will be with God, and nothing evil or harmful will ever touch us again. In heaven, God "will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away" (Revelation 21:4). Why would anyone not want to go there?
All this is possible because Jesus Christ took upon Himself the death and judgment we deserve when He died on the cross for us. And by rising from the dead, He showed that He has conquered death and Hell and Satan forever. Is your faith and trust in Him for your salvation? If not, commit your life to Him today.

Souls don't exist, but if they did and they were energy after we died the energy would be dissipated.
