Purgatory is a doctrine in the Roman Catholic Church, which declares that those who die in a state of grace undergo a purification in order to achieve the holiness necessary to enter heaven. This purification of the elect, while traditionally seen as a fiery punishment for sins, is declared to be entirely different from the punishment of the damned in hell. The Catholic doctrine holds that the souls in purgatory undergo temporal punishment due to venial sins or as satisfaction due to their transgressions, and that they can be aided by the prayer and sufferings of the faithful and the Sacrifice of the Mass. Hence central to the Roman Catholic doctrine of purgatory is prayer for the dead.

In some Christian traditions, Hades is the abode of the dead where the righteous and unrighteous alike await resurrection and judgment. Hades has two sections, the bosom of Abraham for the righteous and a place of torment for the unrighteous, with a chasm or abyss separating them. The concept of Hades is found in Eastern Orthodox teaching, but Western Christianity does not include Hades in its cosmology.

Most Christians see hell as the eternal punishment for unrepentant sinners, as well as for the Devil and his demons. As opposed to the concept of Purgatory, damnation to hell is considered final and irreversible. Various interpretations of the torment of hell exist, ranging from fiery pits of wailing sinners to lonely isolation from God's presence.

Purgatory is a place to work off your sins so that you can go to heaven in the end because most people wont get to heaven. This one is a catholic concept as protestant believe that Jesus died for your sins so that this s unnecessary

Hades is either the Greek God of the underworlds or the underworld in Greek mythology. It is a gloomy place where all mortals go - there is no heaven or hell in Greek mythology just hades. (some films portray this as hell and the devil but its just a version of the after life no evil involved)

Hell is where all bad people/people who didn't convert to Christianity go to be punished.

Purgatory doesn't exists....created by the catholics. A so-called holding place for souls in between heaven and hell. Couldn't be more anti-scripture and further from the truth.

Hell and hades are the same....just different words. A place of eternal torment.

Hades is from Greek mythology and was where all the dead went to live underground.

Purgatory is a Catholic belief; it is a place where you go temporarily while you pay for unforgiven sins.

Hell is a Christian belief (Catholic and Protestant) where all people that have not accepted Christ, Satan and his followers are sent to suffer for eternity.

These are quick overviews, there are probably many different beliefs about the last 2. The first, Hades, may be adopted by people to refer to hell, but it is not the same concept.

Purgatory - the Roman Catholic waiting room. If you are there, you aren't quite good enough to go to Heaven, but not bad enough to go to hell. Real life example - waiting in line at the DMV.

Hades - the Greek underworld. Not really scary & no fire. It is described as dark and gloomy.

Hell - Christianity's and others underworld. Depending on the faith in question, it has a devil, lakes of fire, endless torment, icy depths.....so on and so on. People who are unfit to stand before (in the presence of) God go there after death.

Hope that helps you out.

I think hades and hell are the same thing. Purgatory a place you go to clean your soul before moving up. Purgatory comes from the word purge.

they're essentially the same thing, in different religions.

purgatory is hell for catholics, feeling you can purge your sins and be redeemed (if you forget to go to confession before you die), catholics don't believe in hell (i don't think)

hades is for greek orthodox, and the underworld in greek mythology

hell is just a generic term for that big fiery bad place used world over

same thing, not nice if you believe in such things - the place where your soul goes for eternity if you pull faces at old people, or tell lies.
