How do I cheer my patients up?

I'm a nurse and how do i cheer my patient (child, teen, adult, elderly) up?

Always smile.
Let them know how proud you are of them when they've followed your instructions.
Compliment them.
Talk about things they like (their children, pets, etc)
Make them feel like they are the most important thing in the world to you.
Those are the kinds of things I would want my nurse to do for me!
