Who was this guy (Saint Valetine) anyway and what did he ever do for anyone? And how did his name get associated with a yet another commercial holiday?

i understand ur point but don't see it like that just like we are honoring other holidays like father's and mother's day, i guess v-day is just another one of them. well the thing is u don't have to celebrate it if u don't want to it is not mandatory, it is voluntary if u want to go with the flow just do but if u don't want to u don't have to. it is not an obligation so don't make it a big deal for others.

no we don't need the holiday. After all its just a money maker. Why just show the person u love only one day a year why not do it everyday? He was a priest in Rome. He helped the romans be able to marry again and love again. B/c the roman empire Claudius took all of that away from them. But yah I think vday is a waste of money.

I;m not sure sure but this holiday is really just to make/spend money. Valentine's Day is meant to spent with the person you love, has nothing to do with buying them anything. Same goes for Christmas, it's about spending time with your family, not so much about the gifts.

According to a legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure.

yes, it is. Despite popular history, i think it is a Hallmark-induced holiday. take advantage, though, go to Victoria's Secrets and buy something nice for your wife, a bottle of wine and pour a hot bubble bath and enjoy the night.

It is an opportunity to let you loved ones know that you care! Take advantage of it. You don't have to spend a lot of money.
