If you have to ask this question on this site, you obviously have not done any research on the breed. They are not for everyone. If you do decide it is the breed for you, make sure you go to a reputable breeder and buy a puppy only from KC Registered stock which has had all the necessary health checks and have proven good temperaments. A well bred Rottweiler puppy does not come cheap, but it will cost a lot less in the long run in vet's bills and heartache.

Rottweilers are not banned in the UK.
The types listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act are the American Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Argentine Dogo and Brazilian Mastiff.
As with any dog, but especially with one so powerful as a rottweiler, make sure you check out the breeder before parting with any cash. For some good advice, look on here:

It would be a good idea to enrol in puppy classes too. Even if you're fairly experienced with dogs - the point is that as well as being shown how to train your dog, the dog will also be socialised around people and other dogs. This will make him/her a much more enjoyable (and safe!!) pet to have around.
Good luck.

I haven't heard of the actually being banned...I know my apartment complex does not allow them...but banned by a city/town/state or whatever - no. If you really want to buy a rottie, I suggest you do plenty of research first (as you should with ANY breed you choose to buy). And too, if you do choose to buy a dog of that size, I advise you get it into obedience school or something similar and MAKE SURE you can afford to feed it and care for it (because they do eat just a wee bit more than those little yippy yappy ankle biters).

No Rottweilers are not banned anywhere in the UK.
They make fantastic dogs, remember it is how the animal is cared for that determines what kind of animal it will grow up to be. If it has a kind and loving home, with professional training it will grow up to be a kind and loving dog with obedience to suit. This is with ALL dogs even Pittbulls!
Remember all dogs have the natural instinct be dangerous they are domesticated wild animals.

No they are not banned my friend hot a Rottweiler and is having pups of her. There are some dogs that are banned like the pittbull terrier. I can see why your sister may think they are banned after all the publicity of the young girl being killed by a pittbull but rottweilers are very different.

Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 prohibits four types of dog:
the Pit Bull Terrier
the Japanese tosa
the Dogo Argentino
the Fila Brasileiro
Read the info on the following site to make sure that you fit the requirements for a rottie owner. They are a LOT of hard work.

I agree with yaff No they are not banned but pit bulls are. i disagree with HEY though it is the way animals are brought up as to how they turn out I knew someone who had a rottie he had him as a puppy and that dog was well brought up it was so soppy when it was older I think if the owner had burglars that rottie would have opened the door so the burglars to get the stuff out. IT's THE WAY THEY ARE BROUGHT UP, IT IS NEVER THE DOGS FAULT

No they are not banned and there are no plans to ban them.
Read up on them first. They have a strong guarding instinct and are very protective of their owners so they need a lot of good training.A well trained rottie can be a wonderful pet.

I live in NEW YORK and they are not banned BUT you live in the UK in order to definitely know for sure is get a hold of your local holding center it would be like a shelter for animals or contact your police station and ask them you never can be too sure BUT I think that you should believe your sister for that she is your sister and I do not think that she would want to steer you wrong THE BEST OF LUCK
