There are a few possibilities:
He can hear something in the walls - mice, rats, insects, etc.
He is bored and is being destructive for something to do.
He knows that he can get your attention by digging at the wall.
The best way to start solving the problem is to distract him with toys and games before he can start digging. Give him lots of exercise and tire him out.
Staffies can be intelligent dogs so try hiding his toys so he has to work out where they are.
If you're doing all this and it's not working then maybe you should speak to your vet who might have some dog-psychology insights.

hi i own two staffs and have come across this behaviour. With my first staff i use to put a west Indian HOT chili sauce on the things he was destroying it did work a treat, however when i got my 2ND staff she started the same but this time i bought a dog crate/cage and that works just as good her behaviour is now good and she only chews things my kids leave lying around. I only put her in the crate/cage when she is due to have puppy's then my puppy's use it as there bed. i have recommended to all the people who had my puppys to buy one as staffs are great chewers and diggers well infact will destroy almost any thing.

Why is he doing this?boredom, lonely, not being walked regularly or trained,we have never had this problem either and we have 4 yes 4of
these lovely beautties,so why you have a problem with your dog is down to you not the animal, you need to show them love and give him/her plently of affection, they are peoples dogs and thats why they are also called the nanny dogs as they adore children. At the end of the day it is entirely up to the owner how its been treated. So its not the dogs fault at all..

He's bored, and not getting enough exercise. He needs two to three hours exercise per day. Try taking him for long walks, and let him off the lead wherever possible and sensible to do so.

Is it possible that you have mice? He could be trying to get at them. My dog alerted us to the fact that we had mice and once we'd got rid of them she stopped scratching at the walls.

Boredom and too much energy. He needs alot more exercise AND supervision. Whenever you cannot watch him, crate him. It will be much safer for him and your home.
