My friend is encouraging me to read the book "Conversations with God" Did you get this out of it too-she say that "we are God." She says that God is in us, and therefore WE are God.

I believe that we should be like Jesus and do the right thing in life, but do not believe that WE are God. Is this what you think as well?

I read those books when I was in New Age. The book does promote the ideas that one is God. The basic New Age dogma is promoted in the book (though I'm sure New Agers would be angry at me using a word they like to look down on to describe one of their beliefs... that's right "dogma" because you try to say how things are and how they were... this is being dogmatic!).

The basic idea in this book about God's relationship with human beings is that we are a part of God and have just forgotten that we are God. Logic would ask, can God be deluded? And if God can be deluded, is he really God? And if God only divided himself up so as to love himself only, would this be real "love" (which by definition involves loving an other, that is one who is different from oneself) or egotism (God just loving himself)?

I think many new agers confuse the fact that God is in us (as in God being in all of creation) with the idea that God is us or is all of creation. Of course God is in us (or better yet that we are in God), because if not, we would not exist. Yet this does not mean that God is us, ie that we are of the same ontological essence as he is... consubstantial or homoousios (of the same being). The Christian idea of being with God and being in union with Him is different than the notion of being God. God is still God and will never be the same thing as human nature (not even in Christ... his human and divine natures, though being unified in his person are still distinct). Rather we will be one with God, in union with him through the humanity of Jesus Christ, God made man.

I have read all the Conversation wtih God books and they are spot on. I believe that God is love. If you have love in your heart, God lives there. I think that's what she meant about us being God...

God manifests in mysterious ways... thru people and events. I believe that the little voice inside that tells us which path to take is God speaking to us thru our heart and our deepest conscience. I don't believe I am God.... If I were, the wars would stop, children would stop being sick and dying, etc. So no, I did not get her view from reading these books. But if you do believe in God, then you must believe in miracles. And if you believe in miracles, why is it hard to believe that God manifested Himself thru the man that wrote the Conversation with God books?

And no matter what, even if you do read the books, you still have a mind of your own and you own your mind so you take what you need and want from these books. In my personal opinion, you are missing out if you don't read the books. If you are a teen, the Conversations with God for Teens is great. No matter what you believe, you'll know when reading what is right for you.... that little Voice inside will guide you to the right place. And you'll have better conversations with your friends.

I also believe that nothing happens without a reason... God sees to that.... So perhaps you should read the book...

Be true to that little Voice.....

You know - I disliked those books and I'm not even Christian! Nor do I believe we are God. Having an indwelling of God - such as the Holy Spirit in Christianity - is completely different then claiming that because of this it must mean we are God.

Those books were written by a man in Ashland, Oregon (hides face in shame that author is from home state) by a method called automatic writing. That right there should be a big red warning flag.

Talk to your friend - ask them why they like this series. Is it because of the idea that we are God?

There are also a lot of other topics in the books that weren't particularly appealing to me. I thought the whole thing sounded like the New Age party line in print.

I think the point is that God is within us.. and every other living creature.. in that respect we are God.
I have children and grandchildren.. they are me, in that they carry my mitochondrial DNA, but they are not me in that we are separate beings.
In that respect, I will agree with the author.

I don't believe Jesus ever existed, therefore I don't feel the need to be like him. If you do and want to behave in a peaceful and loving manner towards others, then I think that's beautiful.

Many blessings on your path.

I've seen the book. I've thought about picking it up but would rather explore the answers through experience, my own faith tradition, and reading more fiction. Loving friends and family are helpful too. I think God's revealed to us in these and other ways.

I wonder if I'll ever pick up that book to read it for myself... hmmmm...

Conversations with God was one of the best books I have ever read. It strongly correlates with many ancient mystical traditions, and many orthodox christians might disaprove, but if you read it with an open mind, one message comes through: God IS love. He does not judge, he guides. He does not punish, he helps us correct our mistakes. You can always reject it after reading it, but if you don't, you'll never know.

You're right. We are not God. But we can try to live our lives the way that Jesus would have us live. You have a choice of who to follow, but Jesus is the only path that leads to light.

The Almighty YHVH created this world very good. Once man sinned, he could no longer meet the requirements of YHVH. Because of His great love for man, He sent His son the Savior. The Savior's name means YHVH is my Savior!--YAHOSHUA! The only way one can have his sins taken care of is to invite the Savior in to carry them. If a person chooses to remain attached to their sins, they will be consumed in the cleansing fire the Almighty will send to cleanse this world so He can make it new! How could the Almighty be more generous? We need to stay close to the Scriptures. Many people have written much that is displeasing to the Almighty!

Don't worry, it's just more brainwashing, go for it. I mean, what good is a brain when you're told to believe an inexcusable lie?
