I applaud you-being a step is not easy. I would suggest that you may want a more neutral room that you can change as he ages with out major remodeling. Try painting his fave color (if it is too much for the whole room do one walkk in the color and the rest white). Then add the details-his fave character bedding, pictures that are framed that can be changed out as he ages (so you aren't buying frames etc all the time-if he likes Spider Man, frame some comic books). Get a few things like a chair and table and paint those as Spidey as you can-bright reds and blue with balck webs drawn over it! Make the accents the theme part. If you want add a climbing wall (saw this on DIY) using pipes like you would for a plumber and place them up the wall like a ladder-then he can spidey up his own wall!!! You can get tumble mats to put under the bars (for safety). Good luck on the baby and the move!

At the Home Improvement store you can buy these very cool plastic spiderman stuff to put on the wall that can later be removed. Unfortunately I forget the name of them -thin plastic pictures that stick to the wall. This allows the room to grow with him and when he gets older you can take the transfers down and put something else up. I would paint the room a darker blue color with red and white trims. This sets up the spiderman theme. You can buy all kinds of spiderman sheets and pillow cases as well as curtains at Wal-mart or other supercenters. Let him "help" for a few minutes so it seems like a family event just for him (it doesnt hurt to give a child a special day). Good luck with your new baby too. Congrats!!

You could ask him for some ideas of what he'd like in his room, but keep in mind when picking a theme that children change their mind from week to week. I would talk with his mother and try to make the room somewhat similar to his at home. Paint the walls a similar color and use the same color sheets. I wouldn't use overly bright, deep colors because they're stimulating. Use calm, soothing colors since he already has difficulty going to sleep. It's sweet that you want to make his room spectacular. Be sure to have some things in the room that are familiar and comforting. I would do some of the basics like paint and sheets and then take him to the store to pick out some things he likes (like a pillowcase, rug, lamp, a few decorations). It'll make it his own and you two will bond. Good Luck!

I think it's very sweet of you to want to make it as easy and as comfy for him has poosible to feel at home in your house too! I would suggest that you involve him in the process. Ask him what he'd like in his room, let him pick out the colours, decorations, or at least make him think he is helping out (I guess you don't want a room brown and yellow and pink...lol.. just guide him!) I think if you get him to help, it'll feel more like his space - plus - you'll get to spend some quality time with him!
If he does want to go with a certain theme, if you go to a paint store and bring samples of what you are doing they can match colours to anything... spiderman, a team jersey, toys etc.
You can also find stencils of almost anything at craft and paint stores or make your own with pictures and clear plastic paper, so it is see through and you can trace with a permanent marker and then with exacto knife cut out form to use wall. I find when use stencils, be frugal with the paint and dab on.
Hope these ideas help, congrat sand the new baby, new house and hope he enjoys his new room!

As a former preschool teacher dealing with 3-5 year olds. There minds change so fast. One minute it's sponge bob the next spider man and every other hero in between. One thing that never gets old for boys 4 years old is dinosaurs! You could even make the room have like volcanos and cool stuff like that (lava scenes) it's something that will fit for him for a while!

Why not ask the 4 yo what he'd like to have in his room? Getting his help and input will make the room seem more like his. Whatever theme he wants. Let him even help get it put together. He'll enjoy the room more if he helps with it. I'd get a couple of samples of things and let him look them over. You can always steer him in another direction if it's something impossible. Plus they make decals and stuff to just put on the walls now. I bet he'd want to sleep in the room he helped create.

SPANK him. First, tell him why you're spanking him. next, spank his butt. ultimately, hug him and tell him you like him. i'd try hitting extra durable and utilising a gadget.(A belt, paddle, wood spoon, slipper, or hairbrush all paintings nicely) you may desire to get the think approximately the time of to him which you're on top of issues, no longer him. i'd try giving him 15 whacks. If that would not paintings, try 20. supply him a warming he won't quickly forget approximately!! In some weeks you will desire to work out an progression. some business enterprise spankings will sparkling issues up.

Why dont you do his room in MANY comic book characters...pick Marval comics or something like that and have ALL of the characters in the room that way if one day he doesnt like spiderman he can pick a different character to like. My husband has already made me promise to do that if we have a son. myhubby is a comic fanatic! he will either pick marval comics or DC comics...either way..our son will have a comic book themed room. and yes..they change their minds ALOT! so having more then one character may help
