Well, if you buy it a week before the planned meal (alive) then you can keep it as an honourary pet...
Not much good as an alternative to a guard dog,
but you will find that they are very affectionate and a good talking point at dinner parties...
As for cooking it -fresh is probably best.

Hope this helps... :-)

Best to buy live lobsters the day of cooking. They can be kept in the fridge for a day but no longer. In Ohio, live lobsters are about
$12-14 per pound with the average size 11/2 to 2 pounds. Don't forget the butter!

Lobsters are pricey around £10 - £15 each for a good one. You will buy the lobster alive and cook it alive. You can get it the day before and keep it in a cooler. I would cook it the day you eat it like all seafood.

Better fresh on the day. Either pre cooked or raw.

Better having pre cooked.
OR once cooked in shell let cool in fridge for an hour or so and then serve. Some like it grilled after it is boiled or pre cooked . just grill add a nice sauce ( garlic or chilli or plain butter ) and serve with a salad side plate.
Size is the key and dictator of price if you buy a whole pre cooked have the shop cut it in half for you Much easier than doing it yourself and makes it easy .. just place under the grill if that;s the way you want to eat it ( 5 mins max)

if you based on cooking when the time that the lobster is colored orange thats he time you can eat it. lobsters in our place are very expensive even small ones because it is very hard to catch lobsters. for me they are more faster when it comes to escaping and because it is hard to find due to deep water liver thats why it is very expensive.
